As Head of Major Customer Decarbonisation, you will lead Western Power’s engagement with major industrial and generation customers—accelerating decarbonisation outcomes while enabling critical network expansion to support the State’s renewable energy future.
Operating at the most senior levels of the organisation, this role will set major‑customer centric strategies, shape partnerships and oversee delivery to connect large‑scale renewable generation, storage and industrial loads, supporting Western Australia’s long‑term decarbonisation and economic growth objectives.
Your Role in Action
Establish and evolve a front‑end, pre‑feasibility engagement capability to develop and shape new connection applications that:
Build strategic relationships with key industry representatives and major customer senior leaders (or potential customers)
Develop insight into mid‑to long‑term major customer growth and decarbonisation plans
Provide clear visibility of the future major customer connection pipeline to inform transmission expansion planning and delivery
Shape customer decarbonisation and growth efforts to maximise outcomes for both customers and Western Power
Lead the major customer connections development strategy and decarbonisation programmes, including streamlining grid connection processes
Ensuring generators and loads can connect under fair and reasonable terms and conditions with their risks and costs appropriately managed
Working with government to develop appropriate customer connection regulations for the future energy system
Provide sponsorship, project development and end‑to‑end delivery coordination for:
All major transmission and distribution customer connections projects associated with generation, storage and load
Complex transmission network expansion projects required to connect major customer projects and support state development goals.
Build and maintain trusted relationships across industry, government, regulators and the broader organisation to ensure Western Power has the mandate and influence required to deliver strategic outcomes
Lead and develop specialist teams, both as a formal leader and through matrixed arrangements across the enterprise
Coach, mentor and motivate leaders and teams to ensure high‑quality delivery and sustained portfolio performance
What Makes You a Great Fit
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Business Management, Economics, Program Management, Finance, or related discipline
Broad and deep knowledge of the decarbonisation environment and ecosystem with associated understanding of sophisticated concepts and principles gained through experience in senior / strategic positions
Advanced negotiation and relationship skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation, including C Suite and Board
Strategic perspective, strong analytical and business acumen capability, ability to think conceptually and apply business context when generating solutions
Ability to lead and align both internal and external resources, suppliers and business stakeholders via a common vision and purpose
Proven technical leadership and team building skills when developing large and complex programmes and projects with a high level of uncertainty / ambiguity
Excellent communication, relationship‑building, influencing and negotiation skills to enable leadership across organisational boundaries
