Primary objective
Provide support to the Northern Territory Suicide Prevention Team assisting in the coordination of social and emotional
wellbeing and suicide prevention forums, program initiatives, activities, and intervention strategies. This role works within a
small team to support a whole of government approach to suicide prevention outlined in the NT Suicide Implementation
Plan
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work with community stakeholders including Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, government agencies, and
community members to support social and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention activities and action planning.
2. Lead the delivery and management of NT community suicide prevention grants.
3. Provide secretariat support to the NT Suicide Prevention Coordinating Committee and the Suicide Prevention
Community Action Planning forums.
4. Maintain accurate communication of NT Suicide Prevention information to support sector awareness of the impact of
deaths by suicide, postvention supports and prevention strategies.
5. As part of a team, we assist with resource development and education/training for social and emotional wellbeing-
b a s e d activities that empower communities to stay strong and healthy.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
7. Any other duties as directed by line manager in keeping with operational strategic directions.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Previous experience in engaging, listening, and sharing information with Aboriginal and/or culturally diverse communities.
2. Experience in providing administration and secretariat support for meetings and forums.
3. Strong oral and good written communication skills; including the ability to communicate and liaise effectively with
Government and community organisations.
4. Knowledge of social and emotional wellbeing framework and the impacts of suicide on high-risk populations including
Aboriginal people, young people, LGBTQIASB+ and multicultural communities.
5. The ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
6. Well-developed organisational skills and experience managing deadlines.
Desirable
1. Qualification in the field of social and emotional wellbeing, health promotions, or community services.
2. Experience working in mental health, alcohol, and other drug sectors.
