Senior Project Officer - Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention
The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the 'health voice' for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.

About the role
1 year fixed term contract | Full time
The Senior Project Officer – Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention leads state wide planning, advocacy and coordination of culturally safe suicide prevention initiatives across South Australia.
This role strengthens community‐led social and emotional wellbeing programs by working closely with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, government agencies and mainstream providers to improve service capacity, workforce capability and referral pathways.
The position supports development of jurisdictional suicide prevention planning, community networks, aftercare coordination and sector capacity building under the Culture Care Connect program.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver South Australia's Jurisdictional Suicide Prevention Plan
* Lead advocacy for sustainable funding and system reform
* Support community‐controlled suicide prevention networks
* Strengthen referral pathways and service partnerships
* Coordinate sector training and capacity building
* Facilitate collaboration with ACCHOs and government stakeholders
* Deliver reporting aligned with national program requirements
Qualifications
* Experience working with Aboriginal communities in SEWB or mental health
* Stakeholder engagement in Aboriginal community‐controlled health
* Policy, planning or advocacy experience
* Understanding of Aboriginal suicide prevention and SEWB frameworks
* Experience developing projects through co‐design
* Previous working experience in the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, particularly in an Aboriginal health‐related area.
* Experience in service delivery in an Aboriginal health and well‐being setting
* Qualification in Mental Health, Psychology, Counselling or related field
* Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or SEWB
* Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid
Special Conditions
National Police Check and Working with Children Check
Ability to travel intra‐state and interstate, including overnight stays.
Out‐of‐hours work may be required.
