James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a reliable and proactive Laboratory and Technical Support Assistant to support high-quality teaching and learning within the Murtupuni Centre for Rural and Remote Health. This hands-on role ensures our teaching facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with relevant standards—helping deliver an excellent learning experience for our students.
About the Role
In this position, you will provide day-to-day technical support across teaching laboratories, ensuring equipment, materials and learning spaces are prepared, secure and well-maintained. You will help minimise service-related risks, support staff and students during teaching activities, and contribute to a strong safety culture through the improvement of procedures and adherence to WHS legislation.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver timely and accurate technical support to staff, students and visitors.
- Assist with the maintenance and minor repairs of laboratory equipment and infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with safety, hygiene and WHS requirements across all teaching facilities.
- Contribute to a positive teaching and learning environment by preparing spaces and resources.
- Support continuous improvement of procedures, manuals and operational protocols.
About you:
- Experience working in a scientific or research laboratory, with familiarity across common equipment.
- Understanding of WHS legislation and how it applies in laboratory environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to customer-focused service.
- Qualifications and experience consistent with HEWL 4
