Primary objective
To lead, develop, manage and promote the Quality Use of Medicines within the organisation, including medicines governance, medication
safety, and medicines stewardship programs, to improve patient outcomes.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership, line management, induction, guidance, mentoring, support and expert advice to junior and senior staff to ensure

the effective delivery of Quality Use of Medicines programs to RDPH in a complex cross cultural context.
2. Assist the Director with the administration of the department, including recruitment, performance management, and improvements in

medication management within the Top End Region and across the NT.
3. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
4. Provide pharmacy leadership across Quality Use of Medicines programs, setting work plans, and ensuring appropriate activities are

undertaken within established clinical governance structures to prepare the health service for national accreditation.
5. Undertake the Secretariat role for the NT Medicines and Therapeutics Committee, and manage the RDPH Drug Information Service.
6. Develop and foster strategic relationships through committee memberships and links with other pharmacy departments and

universities.
7. Facilitate and promote research activity that contributes to the organisation’s Quality Use of Medicines programs.
8. Maintain a commitment to ensuring contemporary knowledge, leadership practices, and career development.
9. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy and Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
2. Extensive contemporary experience, preferably in a tertiary hospital setting, with demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues

and challenges related to pharmacy service provision.
3. Experience in human resource management, including recruitment, line management, supervision, and mentoring of professional staff.
4. High level initiative and commitment to quality improvement, including the ability to plan, prioritise and manage high volume workloads

with changing priorities.
5. Demonstrated competence, expertise, and application of clinical judgement relevant to Quality Use of Medicines, including detailed

knowledge and understanding of relevant jurisdictional and national policies and standards that promote the Quality Use of Medicines.
6. Demonstrated leadership, negotiation and change management skills including the ability to delegate appropriately, and effectively

monitor performance outcomes.
7. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in researching, analysing, coordinating information and providing concise, relevant and

timely advice, briefings and written reports for a variety of audiences.
8. Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate and liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualifications or research experience in clinical pharmacy, clinical governance, or management.
