Company Overview:
Our valued national transport services client, operating across Australia, is responsible for introducing a new fleet of passenger rolling stock vehicles.
Due to increased project demand, they require 3X Mechanical Fitters and 3X Electricians to join their retrofit project delivery team on an initial 6-month contract, with strong potential for extension.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a modern, purpose-built maintenance and distribution centre supporting major rail infrastructure upgrades.
Role Duties & Tasks:
Mechanical Retrofit Installation
* Remove and replace outdated mechanical and Electrical assemblies, brackets, mounts, and components.
* Install new systems and modifications to rolling stock standards.
* Fit parts, fasteners, pneumatics, panels, and structural elements.
* Carry out alignment, torquing, and precision fitting as required.
Testing & Commissioning
* Perform mechanical and electrical functionality checks following retrofit installation.
* Verify correct operation of door systems, underframe equipment, interior fittings, and mechanical subsystems.
* Record and report mechanical test results in accordance with project QA procedures.
Fault Finding & Repairs
* Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues including wear, misalignment, vibration, or component failure.
* Repair or replace defective parts in line with OEM specifications and engineering drawings.
* Ensure all rectification works meet rail compliance, safety standards, and project requirements.
Documentation & Compliance
* Update as-built documentation, drawings, and modification reports.
* Complete daily job sheets, inspection checklists, and safety documentation.
* Ensure all work complies with rail operator mechanical standards, engineering specifications, and WHS requirements.
Collaboration & Coordination
* Work alongside engineers, and project supervisors on retrofit upgrades.
* Attend daily toolbox meetings and safety briefings.
* Report progress, delays, or technical concerns to team leaders or engineers.
Safety & Housekeeping
* Follow isolation, lockout/tagout, and mechanical safety procedures.
* Maintain a clean, organised workspace within rolling stock and workshop areas.
* Adhere to depot-specific WHS, environmental, and operational safety policies.
Required Skills, Experience and Competencies:
* Certificate III in Mechanical or Electrical trade.
* Demonstrated experience working on rolling stock, heavy vehicles, plant, defence, aviation, or similar mechanical equipment.
* Ability to interpret drawings, CAD prints, and technical manuals.
* Solid fault-finding and troubleshooting capability.
* Ability to work autonomously and within a high-performance team environment.
* Strong computer literacy (MS Office suite) is beneficial.
* Experience in emergency response or depot safety systems highly regarded.
* Willingness to work rotating shifts, OT, and on-call as required.
Pre-employment Requirements:

* Category 1 Rail Medical including Drug & Alcohol screening.
* National Police Check.
* Australian Work Rights Check.
* 2x Reference Checks.
* Trade Proficiency Assessment.
