The Role
Defence Digital Group (DDG) is responsible for shaping, delivering and sustaining an integrated and scalable ICT environment, the Single Information Environment (SIE), to enable Defence to fight and win in the digital age. The DDG Engineering Branch is responsible for providing and applying technological principles to create, manage, and maintain digital systems and infrastructure in a scaled agile framework (SAFe). Our aim is to reduce the complexity and remove legacy systems to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance agility. We are seeking an experienced ICT solution architect to contribute to the design and leadership of modern workplace solutions built on Microsoft 365. You will play a key role in shaping solution architecture across services including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Purview, Defender, Intune, Copilot, W365 virtual desktops, Power Platform, and Azure Virtual Desktop. Working under broad direction, you will develop solution designs, evaluate technical options, prepare documentation for assurance boards and design authorities, and ensure alignment with ISM, Essential Eight and Defence architectural standards. You will collaborate with engineering, security, and project teams to steer the integration of M365 capabilities across complex environments. About our Team
Microsoft 365 Engineering is responsible for enabling modern, secure collaboration and productivity capabilities across Defence and ensuring Microsoft 365 solutions contribute to Defence’s evolving needs in the digital age. The chapter oversees the architecture, design, and assurance of Defence’s Microsoft 365 technology landscape, including key services such as Teams, SharePoint, Exchange Online, Purview, Intune, Power Platform, and more. This includes ensuring solutions align to Defence strategy, architectural standards, reusable patterns, and security and legislative requirements. The chapter ensures solutions are purposefully designed to drive adoption of modern ways of working and deliver practical improvements to productivity and collaboration.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Strong experience designing and implementing Microsoft 365 products and services such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, Purview, Defender, Intune, Copilot, W365 virtual desktops, and Power in uplifting organisational adoption of modern collaboration tools, helping teams embrace new ways of working and maximise the value of M365 capabilities.Proficiency in applying ICT security frameworks (ISM, Essential Eight, ISO27001) within enterprise scale environments.Demonstrated capability leading or mentoring technical teams, uplifting engineering practice, and contributing to the development of reusable architectural quality documentation skills, including configuration baselines, future state, preparing architecture papers, design decisions, and artefacts for design and assurance governance.Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide clear technical advice, negotiate outcomes, and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.Familiarity with hybrid and cloud based environments and how M365 services integrate with identity, network and security architectures.
