Senior Town Planner – MAAS Group Holdings (ASX: MGH)
We are a multi‑national conglomerate experiencing sustained growth across our key business units of Property Development, Civil Works, Plant Hire, Construction Materials, Electrical and Underground Mining & Tunnelling. This role is part of the Planning and Projects team, contributing to the delivery of MGP Residential projects across regional NSW.
Position Overview
Senior Town Planner (Full‑time, based in Newcastle). You will interact with business stakeholders, consultants and council regularly from development concept to completion, travel to various sites as required, and be responsible for leading external project teams.
Responsibilities
- Interpret relevant local and state government planning strategies, policies, directions, and legislation.
- Undertake desktop site analysis and research in relation to relevant town planning provisions, development opportunities and constraints.
- Prepare Statement of Environmental Effects, coordinate supporting documentation and reports for proposed development.
- Coordinate fee proposals and supporting technical advice for various developments and their approval pathways (e.g., DAs, SWCs, CDCs, CCs, SCs).
- Engage with consultants to provide advice and reporting deliverables on technical matters related to Development Applications to achieve MGP’s desired outcomes.
- Design development plans, documentation, and manage projects and their associated delivery as required.
- Assess and analyze complex planning matters, determine solutions in an effective and timely manner.
- Negotiate outcomes on applications considering the applicant, community needs, and relevant planning provisions and legislation.
- Communicate with all levels of management, staff, government agencies, NGOs, stakeholders and the community both verbally and in writing.
- Build positive collaborative relationships, consult, negotiate and communicate with all parties.
- Review building and subdivision design documentation, drawings and reports to ensure acceptable development aligns with MGP’s aims and objectives.
- Work independently while managing competing priorities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a planner.
- Tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related field, or commensurate experience.
- Unrestricted Australian working rights and current Australian driver’s licence.
- Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
- Reading and understanding technical drawings and diagrams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the NSW planning system and development assessment process.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills, including ability to write complex and technical reports in plain English.
