Ophthalmic Technician/ Optometrist / Orthoptist /Nurse - Leadership PositionDarling Downs Eye is a premier ophthalmic practice located at St. Andrew's Hospital, Toowoomba. The practice provides complete eye care to people of Toowoomba and the surrounding regions.Our business is a private ophthalmic practice that utilises the latest equipment to provide excellence in eye disease management. The equipment is state-of-the-art which allows for the comprehensive and most up to date treatment for conditions such as cataract, macular degeneration and glaucoma. The practice offers minor surgical procedures on site in the fully equipped treatment room.Our business hours are 8.30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday.The position we are offering is a well remunerated, permanent part-time position over 3 days per week (24-25 hours per week).We are casting the net wide to find the best candidate for our team .Renumeration will be offered according to qualifications and skills.School holiday leave available so this job would suit someone with school age children.The CultureThe culture of the practice is characterised by the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, providing outstanding levels of customer service to both our patients and our ophthalmologist, Dr Gilda Kert. We are positive and flexible and understand that families come first.Applicants will be required to work autonomously, as well as with administrative and medical staff and must therefore be able to work as part of a team and have a friendly and positive disposition.Ophthalmology experience is very helpful, but not essential. You must be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities and a keenness to learn. An ability to quickly grasp complex terms and processes is very important, aswell as have excellent communication skills to discourse clearly and succinctly with patients,colleagues and the practice doctor.Clinical duties include, but are not limited to:Assisting with minor procedures in the treatment roomincluding oculoplastics and intravitreal injectionsReading referrals and determining reason for presentation .Medical and ophthalmic history taking, eye examination including vision assessment ofpatients : visual acuity and intraocular pressure documentationComputerised ophthalmic testing (including but not limited to Optical Coherence Tomography - OCT, computerised perimetry - HVF and axial length scanning - Ascan, retinal camera imaging - OPTOS)Working with elderly clientele with poor mobility and other impairments in a kind but efficient mannerEfficiency and accuracy in takinga medical history and ability to translate this into an electronic medical recordAssisting with reception and front of house duties as required including taking phone calls, making appointments and billing patientsAssisting the Office Coordinator with clinical staff rostering, managing clinical supplies, ordering, and managing theatre listsPreferably, you will be expected to have experience in a medical, scientific ornursing environment underpinned by a good knowledge of medical and/or ophthalmic terminology and ophthalmic diseases. You will be expected to commence intensive, role specific learning.
