Electrical / Automation Engineer

Hi-Tech Electrical Services is a Geelong-based industrial electrical and automation contractor seeking an Electrical / Automation Engineer to strengthen and grow our Engineering Department.
This is a hands-on engineering role offering real ownership of work — from concept and detailed design through to PLC/SCADA development, commissioning, and ongoing site support — across major industrial clients in manufacturing and infrastructure.
We are looking for an engineer who enjoys being close to the plant, values practical design, and wants to play a meaningful role in the technical direction and future growth of the business.

About the Role
You will work across the full project lifecycle, delivering compliant, robust and well-documented industrial automation solutions.
Your work will include:
* Electrical design for industrial installations, upgrades and brownfield modifications
* PLC and SCADA system design, programming and commissioning
* Motor control system design (DOL, soft starters, VSDs)
* Relay logic and industrial control systems
* Site commissioning, fault finding and breakdown support
* Engineering calculations to ensure compliance with Australian Standards
* Preparation of:
* Single line diagrams
* Electrical schematics
* Communication and network drawings
* Switchboard general arrangement drawings
* Collaboration with clients, electricians, technicians and programmers to resolve technical issues
* Working closely with our industrial electricians to deliver turnkey solutions for clients.
* Supporting projects from design through to handover and close-out
You will also contribute to:
* Development of engineering standards and templates
* Continuous improvement of internal engineering and project processes
* Technical support and mentoring of technicians and junior engineers (where applicable)
* Project planning, coordination and delivery support

Selection Criteria – Essential
* Degree in Electrical Engineering
* Minimum 5 years' experience in an industrial automation environment
* Strong hands-on experience with:
* PLC and SCADA systems
* Industrial motor control and power systems
* Variable Speed Drives and soft starters
* Industrial commissioning and breakdown support experience
* Solid understanding of Australian electrical standards
* Working knowledge of AS 4024 – Safety of Machinery
* Ability to read and interpret:
* Electrical schematics and single line diagrams
* Process / P&ID drawings
* Experience producing detailed electrical design documentation
* High attention to detail with the ability to work autonomously and manage priorities

Desirable Experience
* AutoCAD Electrical, PowerCAD or similar electrical design tools
* Instrumentation exposure (flow, level, pressure)
* Switchboard design and layout experience
* Experience with Structured Text or other higher-level programming languages used in PLC and SCADA environments
* Experience working directly with industrial clients
* Experience in machinery safety design in accordance with AS 4024 and relevant Australian Standards
* Exposure to project management or technical leadership roles
* Interest in mentoring and developing others
