The Role
As an FPGA Engineer, you will be part of a small, high-performing firmware team, contributing to the full lifecycle of embedded firmware development. You'll work on advanced military-grade systems involving real-time signal processing, high-speed communications, and complex embedded architectures.
You will report to the Firmware Team Lead and collaborate closely with hardware and software engineers to deliver robust, high-performance FPGA solutions.
Key technologies include;
* Real time signal processing.
* Layer 2 & 3 network infrastructure.
* 5G/6G communications and surveillance systems.
* High-speed interfaces (DisplayPort, USB, DDR4, JESD204-C, PCIe, Ethernet 10G up to 400G).
* Next-generation Intel (Altera) FPGAs and SoCs, including advanced transceiver technologies and hardened IP.

The key responsibilities for this role include:
* Design and implement high-speed RTL (SystemVerilog) firmware for FPGA-based systems
* Develop and maintain testbenches and verification frameworks using industry-standard methodologies.
* Interface with high-speed memory (e.g., DDR4) and SERDES (56Gbps+).
* Integrate firmware with embedded processors and software systems.
* Participate in design reviews and contribute to architectural decisions.
* Apply agreed standards, guidelines, and tools to ensure quality and maintainability.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated system solutions.
To be successful you will possess:
* Tertiary qualifications in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline (final-year students may also be considered).
* Proficiency in a Hardware Description Language (preferably SystemVerilog).
* Solid understanding of synchronous logic design and FPGA architecture (Intel and/or Xilinx).
* Familiarity with source control systems (e.g., Git).
* Strong problem-solving skills and a logical approach to design challenges
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience with FPGA development tools (e.g., Vivado, Quartus).
* Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, TCL).
* Exposure to embedded software or processor interfacing.
* Understanding of Ethernet stack layers (L1–L3).
* Experience with wireless communication systems and protocols.
