Remote Location Based in Tjuntjuntjara, Spinifex Lands, WA
Tjuntjuntjara is a small, remote Aboriginal community on the Spinifex Lands in the Great Victoria Desert of Western Australia. Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) delivers a wide range of essential and community services, including the Community Store, Resource Centre, Women's Centre, Indigenous Sport and Recreation, Youth Services, Environmental Health, municipal services, mechanics workshop, the Community Development Program, and Spinifex Health Services. Tjuntjuntjara is the main population centre across 55,000 sq km of Native Title land.
The Youth and Kids Coordinator is responsible for delivering a range of community programs, including the Tjuntjuntjara Youth Program, Sports & Recreation Program, and the School Holiday Program.
You'll design and run fun, engaging and age-appropriate activities, support at risk young people, collaborate with local agencies, and play a key role in strengthening youth engagement across the community.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver youth, sports and recreation programs, plus coordinate school holiday activities.
* Plan and promote weekly youth programs at least 4 weeks ahead, aligned with contract KPIs.
* Lead fun, safe and culturally appropriate programs that build confidence, wellbeing and life skills.
* Provide advocacy and referrals to health, counselling and wellbeing services.
* Support children and young people through collaborative case planning when risks are identified.
* Maintain accurate case notes, data collection and monthly reporting.
* Work with the Community Development Manager on program planning, budgeting and improvement.
* Build community awareness of SEWB, mental health and AOD supports.
* Collaborate with local services for cohesive community programming.
* Recruit, supervise and support casual staff, ensuring compliance, timesheets and training needs are met.
* Promote safe work practices and uphold healthy boundaries with young people.
* Represent PTAC at community events and youth activities.
* Travel as required.
Education & Community Engagement
* Deliver wellbeing and lifestyle education sessions to children and young people.
* Support community members and staff to build skills in youth engagement.
* Coordinate experience based learning opportunities with partner agencies (3 per year).
Teamwork & Communication
* Work collaboratively with PTAC staff and external stakeholders.
* Communicate clearly, respectfully and maintain strict confidentiality.
* Build strong relationships with community members and service providers.
* Participate in PTAC meetings and interagency meetings as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
* Certificate 3 in Individual Support or Certificate 4 in Youth Work (or equivalent)
* A National Police Clearance (not more than 2 years old).
* A current Western Australian Working with Children Check.
* Australian citizenship, permanent resident status or appropriate work visa.
* Food handling certification or Knowledge of good food handling (can be provided)
* Good computer skills with understanding of Word & Excel
The salary range offered is between $111,708.10 and $119,746.46 per annum plus superannuation depending on skills and experience. As a not-for-profit, PTAC offers salary packaging, which can boost your take-home pay by reducing taxable income.
