About the Role and Team

We have a new opportunity for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join our growing national China Practice in the Banking & Financial Services section, working with a highly-regarded team of industry leading partners and lawyers.

Our national Banking & Financial Services section has approximately 47 team members and this role will work closely with a number of highly regarded Partners and lawyers across the practice.

Our team has expertise in advising on investment and property funds, syndication transactions, financial services compliance, mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions. Our HW Funds team is Australia's leading investment funds advisory team and leading team dealing with inbound Asian private and institutional capital and investments.

As the leading China legal practice in Australia, we offer the most comprehensive and experienced team dedicated to advising Chinese clients on all aspects of investing and conducting business in Australia and globally. Our clients include state‐owned enterprises, listed companies, private equity and investment funds, financial institutions, family offices, ultra‐high‐net‐worth individuals, and emerging technology ventures with links to China.

Responsibilities

* Assisting with the establishment and operation of funds and fund‐related transactions across all asset classes, including fund restructures, mergers and closures;
* Advising on Australian financial services licensing requirements, including assisting with licensing applications and variations;
* Preparing and reviewing disclosure documents including product disclosure statements and information memoranda;
* Undertaking due diligence processes in respect of proposed transactions and disclosure documents;
* Reviewing fund‐related commercial agreements and advising on arrangements with service providers;
* Working on mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions.

Additional Contributions

* Participating in marketing and business development (including assisting in seminars and other presentations);
* Precedent preparation and review;
* Assisting with articles for publication;
* Adherence to the firm's file management policies;
* Participation in team and section meetings and CPD activities.

About You

* Between 3–8 years of post‐admission experience in funds management and/or financial services law, including experience within private practice;
* Experience in dealing with foreign investment in Australia, Asian private capital including institutions, ultra‐high‐net‐worth individuals and family offices, property funds, corporate transactions and property syndication;
* Strong English written communication and drafting skills, with good attention to detail;
* Mandarin speaking, writing and reading skills are preferred but not essential for this role;
* Enthusiasm for the financial services sector;
* An interest in using innovation to develop the practice;
* Excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with keen attention to detail;
* Outstanding verbal and written communication, client and matter management skills;
* A strong commitment to client service and the ability to manage client relationships;
* A focus on achieving commercial solutions for our clients;
* A willingness and ability to mentor and supervise junior members of the team;
* Initiative and the ability to organise and prioritise effectively.
