Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to
Defence
. Together, we are a
multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for an Engineering Project Manager in Canberra to work on Joint projects .

What You’ll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

- Perform complex engineering tasks (ECPs, CCBs, SSWGs), liaising with Defence stakeholders and managing contractors to provide and obtain engineering advice under the guidance of the Engineering Manager.

- Exercise assigned engineering authorities and Technical Regulatory Authority delegations in accordance with LMSM standards.

- Apply electronics-electrical engineering expertise to identify issues, provide recommendations, and develop advancements in engineering principles and regulations.

- Build and maintain positive teamwork dynamics, mentoring developing engineers and tailoring communication to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.

- Assess technical and design packages, ensure materiel compliance with legislative and policy frameworks, monitor safety aspects, and manage workflows and resources with clear planning and measurable milestones.

What You’ll Bring

- Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian university or recognized equivalent, specializing in Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics, Military Systems, Computer Systems, or ICT engineering.

- Proven experience working on sustainment projects, preferably within a Defence environment.

- Hands-on experience with Tactical Data Links or secure communications systems in military settings.

- Desirable professional recognition as a Full Member of Engineers Australia or Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or equivalent international certification.

- Additional valuable skills include Cisco certifications (CCNA/CCNP), engineering support for medium to large ICT networks, familiarity with E&IG; processes, and experience implementing containerised ICT systems.

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
