Grounds Supervisor

Job Responsibilities:

* Liaise with department heads regarding the general running of the department and perform related duties as assigned.
* Conduct daily briefings and assign colleagues to various tasks/sections.
* Prepare clear and concise reports regarding all departmental requirements.
* Tour property as requested with the department head.
* Assists in overall landscape management and maintenance of the resort; trees, flowers, shrubs, ground cover, weed control etc.
* Conduct an inspection of the property on a regular basis during the shift to ensure duties are being performed satisfactorily and to identify areas for improvement.
* Control the distribution of materials, equipment/tools to staff. (maintain accurate records of same via spreadsheet).
* Coordinating with vendors and service suppliers along with the internal team to prepare the property for any act of nature (storms, hurricanes etc)
* Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
* Check stock levels of materials, plant stock etc. and inform department head as necessary.
* Ensure that safety procedures are followed i.e. use of protective clothing and safety equipment etc. while performing specific duties.
* Monitor the irrigation system and operate as necessary.
* Resolve any departmental conflict equitably and according to best practice
* Support daily gardening functions as required, assist with performing duties for Grounds colleagues who may be absent, on vacation or assigned special garden projects, and operate heavy duty equipment as required.
* Performance manage gardeners using coach and counsel skills, provide motivational instruction for staff, and assist with annual colleague performance reviews.
* Carry out performance evaluations for all staff to be submitted to the T&C Department.
* Responsible for inventory ordering and management across the department
* Responsible for effective weekly rostering to ensure that all areas of the hotel are properly looked after.
* Responsible for Payroll and the management of time and attendance for the team
* Follow a preventative maintenance plan to ensure machinery and equipment is kept in good working order.
* Conduct weekly property tours and private tours with guests as necessary.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* University Degree or Associate degree in Landscaping, Horticulture or any similar field.
* Five CXC certificates including Mathematics and English.
* Ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
* Service focused personality is essential.
* Physically active and can push, pull, carry items up to 25 pounds.
* Must be able to effectively handle competing demands via prioritising.
* Excellent organization skills along with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong problem solving abilities.
* Exceptional relationship building skills.
* Must be legally able to work in Barbados.
