Primary objective
Maintain the school buildings and grounds to a high standard, in a functional, neat and orderly condition. Provide a safe and secure learning
environment for staff and students according to school policy and procedures and Health and Safety regulations.
Context statement
Bradshaw Primary School has an enrolment of approximately 430 students and provides education to students from preschool to Year 6.
35% of students identify as Aboriginal. Bradshaw strives to be a centre for educational excellence and aims to challenge and support all
members of the community to reach their potential.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Carry out a range of tasks to make sure the school buildings and grounds are maintained in a safe, neat and orderly condition and are
compliant with regulations.
2. Inspect and unlock the school premises each morning and liaise with appropriate personnel to ensure safety and security of buildings
and grounds.
3. Regularly inspect and undertake general repairs and maintenance to school buildings, fixtures and fittings that require technical, general
handyman or tradesman skills. Ensure that school vehicles are maintained in a safe, roadworthy condition.
4. Installation of new items, such as projectors, window fittings, basketball hoops, shelving.
5. Monitor and report any urgent and non-urgent minor repairs or defects to the Business Manager. Liaise with and oversee repairs
undertaken by external contractors to ensure satisfactory completion.
6. Action potential health and safety risks by immediately reporting or exercising judgement in sorting out the problem.
7. Provide operational support such as relocation of furniture, storage of furniture, equipment and assets; and minor purchasing,
collection of mail and provide a courier service as required. Receive, unpack and distribute supplies as directed.
8. Attend after hours callouts or security checks as required.
9. Maintain personal work areas in a neat, orderly and safe manner, including appropriate use, storage and maintenance of tools,
chemicals/fuels, paint and powered equipment.
10. Assist on school excursions, camps, sports days and other special events as required and driving school bus.
11. Prioritise and perform work tasks reliably, under limited supervision, whilst adhering to school and DoE policies
12. Maintain toilets and wet areas in a clean and hygienic state during school hours.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance (on a large scale/site) and general handyman duties with an
ability to produce a high standard of finish.
2. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, take direction, work independently with limited supervision, displaying initiative
and flexibility and ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
3. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with the public, contractors, school staff and students and an
ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, whilst maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
4. Trade experience or technical knowledge of practices, procedures and skills obtained through training or experience.
Desirable
1. Current LR Drivers Licence.
2. Current First Aid qualification or ability to quickly attain.
3. Current Test and Tag qualification.
