The Role
We are currently seeking for a proactive Senior HSE Coordinator to lead health, safety and environmental support for brownfield modifications projects in Portland. This is a boots on ground role ideal for someone passionate about driving safety culture in high-risk, live plant environments.
You will ensure that support, advice and guidance is given to guarantee all Wood personnel have the necessary tools, training, competency and awareness to carry out their tasks safely and to quality expectations and in full compliance with safety regulations, site permit systems and environmental controls.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Champion HSE performance across SMP, E&I, and civil work fronts in brownfield zones
* Conduct field-based safety observations, audits and toolbox talks
* Lead incident investigations and implement corrective/preventative actions
* Coordinate site inductions and ensure workforce HSE compliance
* Interface with client HSE teams and ensure alignment with client HSE standards
* Track and report safety performance metrics and support continuous improvement initiatives
* Proactively identify and act on hazards in the workplace and intervene in any unsafe practices to assist in maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel
* Coaching and supporting the site leadership team
* Review and update specific work method statements to optimise and standardize work controls
* Creates and delivers against the HSE assurance schedule
* Leads team in identifying, implementing and continually improving HSE processes and procedures for accomplishing work safely
* Interface with client, subcontractors and other stakeholders and represent Wood to a high standard

* Minimum Diploma WH&S or equivalent
* Minimum 5-10 years' experience in construction or industrial HSE roles
* Prior experience in aluminium, smelting or heavy industrial plants is essential
* Deep knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice, and safe systems of work
* Demonstrated leadership skills including the ability to coach and mentor at all levels
* Accident/incident Investigator, e.g. Taproot/ICAM (desirable)
* Confined Space and Work at Heights competency (desirable)
* Rehabilitation & Return to Work Coordinator (desirable)
* Previous experience and sound knowledge of relevant Australian Standards
* Familiarisation with O&G or construction and other relevant legislation and regulations
* Strong HSE planning and organisational skills
* Effective/competent MS office suite user
* High level of oral and written communication skills
* Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
