The opportunity

Video Production Officers are responsible for developing ASIO’s audio visual production and editorial capabilities (filming, producing, editing internal and external products), and ensuring that ASIO products are fit for purpose; maintaining a high level of creativity using latest industry standards and styles when shooting, editing and producing high-quality video and audio products. They work with a team to develop and manage production plans and advise on the end product, target audience, project timeline and artistic direction.

ASIO is seeking an enthusiastic team player with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, work under minimal supervision and maintain composure in a high-tempo environment. You will be a self-starter with a confident and approachable manner, excellent people skills and an ability to build rapport. Your attention to detail will ensure you are successful in this role and meet organisational priorities.

A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.

This role may attract an additional technical skills allowance of up to 10% of base salary.

The key duties of the position include:

Role responsibilities

As an AE5 or AE6 Video Production Officer in ASIO, you will:

· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate project briefs into creative AV concepts and storyboards.

· Assist senior officers to prepare detailed production schedules, shot lists, and resource plans to meet deadlines and budget constraints.

· Operate professional video‑camera, audio, lighting, and grip equipment for studio, field, and live‑event shoots.

· Assist with VIP events and deliver support to senior executives within tight time constraints.

· Ingest, organise, and backup raw footage using industry standard asset management workflows.

· Edit video content (corporate, promotional, training, event, social media) using industry tools such as Premiere Pro.

· Perform colour correction, audio mixing, motion graphics, subtitling, and final mastering to deliver broadcast ready or web optimised files.

· Assist with maintaining a structured digital media library, ensuring proper metadata tagging, version control, and secure storage.

· Oversee inventory, maintenance, and calibration of AV equipment; schedule regular servicing and coordinate repairs or rentals as needed.

· Assist with the production and delivery of digital video and audio content in support of enterprise communication and training.

In addition to the above responsibilities, as an AEE1 Video Production Officer in ASIO, you will:

· Provide training, guidance, and best practice documentation to junior staff or external vendors on AV workflows and standards.

· Balance resource allocation to business and usual tasks and project deliverables.

· Engage with a variety of stakeholders, including business owners, vendors and governance bodies in delivery of critical capability.

· Stay current with emerging AV technologies, software updates, and industry trends; recommend upgrades or new techniques that enhance production quality and efficiency.

· Foster close working relationships with key partners, internally and externally.

· Prepare regular status reports, production metrics, and budget updates for senior management.

· Assist in the development of a strategic direction for ASIO and its capabilities.

Eligibility

What you will bring

At the AE5 and AE6 level, we invite applications from people with the following attributes:

At the AEE1 level, we invite applications from people with the following attributes:

· Highly developed communication and administration skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

· A demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and build technical teams (in person and remotely) – or a willingness to develop these skills.

· The ability to strategically analyse issues from a management perspective, and suggest improvements.

· A willingness to develop and sustain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver business outcomes.

· Experience with government procurement processes, budget development and management - or a willingness to develop these skills.

· Familiarity with one of the following is desirable but not essential:

o Experience in the media industry (i.e. television or production house)

o Experience in a Government media unit

- Assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access security clearance.

Employment conditions

Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
