Darwin | Onsite | Infrastructure Leadership | Conglomerate Environment
A diversified Australian conglomerate is seeking a hands‐on IT Operations Manager to lead infrastructure operations across a multi‐site environment in Darwin. This is not a purely strategic role. This is a technical leader position for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves while leading a small, capable team.
The Environment
* ~1,500+ users
* 150+ applications
* Multi‐site operations (including remote locations)
* Hybrid cloud environment
* Starlink connectivity supporting remote operations
* Microsoft‐centric technology stack
The Role
Reporting into executive leadership, you will:
* Lead and mentor a small IT operations team (approx. 4 direct reports)
* Oversee infrastructure, networks, and cloud services
* Maintain uptime across remote and metropolitan sites
* Manage Starlink and WAN connectivity environments
* Oversee Microsoft 365, Azure, and hybrid infrastructure
* Ensure cybersecurity controls and compliance standards
* Manage vendors and third‐party service providers
* Drive operational improvements and optimisation initiatives
This is a "shoulder‐to‐shoulder" culture — 5 days onsite with flexibility where required.
Technical Environment
* Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams)
* Azure (IaaS, identity, security, backup)
* Active Directory & hybrid identity
* Virtualisation (VMware / Hyper‐V)
* Networking (firewalls, routing, switching)
* Remote connectivity solutions including Starlink
* Backup & disaster recovery frameworks
* Endpoint management & device security
* Cybersecurity governance & monitoring
What We're Looking For
* 8+ years infrastructure / IT operations experience
* Previous experience managing a small team
* Strong troubleshooting capability
* Experience supporting remote or geographically dispersed operations
* Calm, decisive leadership style
* Hands‐on technical depth — not purely managerial
Experience in industrial, resources, agriculture, logistics or multi‐entity environments highly regarded.
Why This Role?
* Key operational leadership role in a diversified business
* High visibility with executive stakeholders
* Autonomy and ownership
* Opportunity to modernise infrastructure environments
* Darwin lifestyle + relocation considered for the right candidate
If you are an infrastructure leader who still enjoys being technical — and want real ownership rather than bureaucracy — we would welcome a confidential discussion.
