This important role in the Environmental Compliance Service uses specialist skills and knowledge in the investigation of reports of unlawful activity on private properties throughout the Local Government Area, including in the administration of Council's building fire safety and footpath awning programs and the provision of specialist advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Council's Compliance and Enforcement Policy will guide you in the application of various legislation administered by Council including but not limited to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
We are seeking an organised individual that can bring the following to the role:
· Degree qualification or advanced diploma in building surveying or a related discipline.
· Current NSW Class C Drivers License or equivalent
· Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation, statutes and codes; and applied knowledge and personal experience across a range of regulatory, development and building certification issues including structural performance, unauthorised development, public health and environmental management issues.
· Experience in communicating complex issues clearly and credibly with widely varied audiences. Proactive feedback and use of appropriate communication medium to gain timely / quality outcomes for Council, client and the community.
· Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on operational plans for the team / business unit that will result in continuous improvement to services.
· Experience in managing team operations to ensure that the activities undertaken achieve the quality and sustainable outcomes in a timely manner.
· Experience in synthesising information from many sources, including experts, in order to understand a problem/situation and proactively resolve the issue to prevent unnecessary escalation.
· Experience in building a strong team that capitalises on differences in diversity, encourages constructive discussion and focuses on organisational objectives / service standards and continuous improvement.
· Experience in taking ownership of the area of responsibility to drive work programmes to achieve timely / quality results and actively managing politically sensitive issues to prevent unnecessary escalation.
A leaseback vehicle is available with this position. It is not a condition of employment.
Remuneration: base salary commencing at $114,375 gross per annum
+ 12% superannuation
+ performance payment 1% - 3.5% annual salary
+ annual award increase
