The Role

The APS 6 Health Practice Manager (HPM) is accountable to perform and achieve complex administrative work to support the delivery of health care services within an integrated workforce. The APS 6 HPM will have work health and safety experience and will be responsible for performing the role of a WHS Coordinator.

They will interpret and provide advice within the allied health function area based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake research and analysis, conduct reviews, assessment and investigations, and perform procedural, clerical, administrative support work to achieve results.

The APS 6 HPM is responsible to set work priorities, manage workflows and performance. They are capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for improvement. You will coordinate and contribute to workplace performance and provide guidance to team members on methods for task completion.

The APS 6 HPM may be a team coach or lead a team. They are capable of building team capability through coaching, feedback and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work unit.

This position has considerable level of stakeholder engagement requiring liaison with stakeholders regarding complex issues. You are capable of building and maintaining relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally.

About our Team

Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 70,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition from service.

Health care services are delivered through eight Joint Health regions across Australia. The APS 6 Health Practice Manager position is part of Joint Health Unit – North Queensland and is based at Lavarack Health Centre (LHC) Lavarack Barracks, Townsville, Qld. Each Joint Health Unit facility provides a range of services, which can include medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, rehabilitation, and in-patient care.

The JHC workforce is an integrated, multidisciplinary team of Defence members, civilians, contractors and professional health providers. We work together to manage around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year.

The APS 6 Health Practice Manager reports to the LHC Health Centre Manager (HCM).

Our Ideal Candidate

An enthusiastic self-starter, the ideal candidate must be able to work autonomously, as well as part of a team. They will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clinicians, staff, patients and stakeholder. They will exercise sound judgement, initiative and accountability in managing complex issues and competing priorities in a dynamic health environment. The role requires a collaborative and inclusive leadership style, resilience, and the capacity to contribute positively to team capability, workplace culture and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will continue to maintain currency and knowledge in line with JHC, ADF and Commonwealth policy, and will possess strong Microsoft Office skills. They would also have work health and safety experience and have the ability to respond to WHS incidents and issues in a proactive, positive and dynamic way.

The ideal candidate must be adaptable and solutions-focused. They will be comfortable with managing change and responding to short-notice tasks, and have the ability to anticipate, identify, and respond to changing priorities while maintaining compliance with policy, procedures, legislation and regulatory frameworks. They will also be committed to ongoing professional development and when required, be prepared to mentor and train junior team members to achieve optimal outcomes.

Eligibility

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Baseline Vetting” level.
