The role

We are seeking a passionate, driven, and hands-on HSE Officer to help us uphold our most important core principle - We Are Safe.

This full-time, permanent role is based at our Orange facility and will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced, operational environment where you can make a real difference.

Due to the size of our operation, this is a standalone position, ideal for a proactive safety professional who's ready to roll up their sleeves, engage with people at all levels, and influence positive change.

This is a residential role, so applicants must either reside in or be willing to relocate to the Orange - NSW region, with current Australian work rights.

Key Responsibilities

As a key influence in driving our safety culture, your responsibilities will include:

* Providing support, consultation, and guidance to management and staff on HSE policies and procedures.
* Conducting regular HSE inspections, audits, and incident investigations, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
* Coordinating injury prevention and management initiatives.
* Delivering HSE training and site inductions to staff, reinforcing a positive safety culture.
* Managing and developing risk assessments, hazard observations, and near-miss reporting.
* Overseeing chemical inventories, ensuring proper labelling, storage, and maintenance of up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
* Maintaining and inspecting safety equipment and supplies, including PPE, eyewash stations, spill kits, and fire extinguishers.
* Ensuring proper waste management and disposal of hazardous materials in line with regulations.
* Supporting equipment maintenance and calibration schedules to ensure safe operation.
* Developing and communicating emergency response plans and conducting regular drills.
* Staying current with HSE legislation, standards, and industry best practices, recommending improvements where needed.
* Maintaining accurate records and documentation, including training, audits, incidents, and chemical inventories.
* Collaborating with the national HSE team to ensure alignment across ALS laboratories.

The essentials

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

* Formal HSE qualifications (Certificate IV minimum) and relevant industry experience, or a willingness to obtain the required qualifications.
* A confident, proactive approach with the ability to build rapport and trust at all levels.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated experience in incident investigations, risk assessments, and auditing.
* Excellent organizational skills and a practical, common-sense mindset.
* High attention to detail, with strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, email).
* A solid understanding of Health, Safety, and Environment legislation and standards.
* Previous experience in a laboratory or similar operational environment (highly regarded).

Everyone Matters

ALS is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and is committed to fostering an inclusive work environment where the strengths and perspectives of each employee are both recognised and valued.

ALS also welcomes applications from people with all levels of ability. Accommodation is available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.

Eligibility

To be eligible to work at ALS you must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.
