About the Role
Built around a small community, Galston High School is nestled within the picturesque semi-rural area of Galston and Dural. With a focus on providing high-quality educational opportunities, Galston High School provides a warm and supportive environment for all of it 581 students, offering a rich curriculum in a co-educational and comprehensive setting. Galston High School is looking for a caring and committed School Learning and Support Officer to join our Special Education Unit, called The Hub. We support students with different learning needs to help them Connect, Succeed, and Thrive.
In this job, you will assist students living with disability in classrooms and other activities, working closely with teachers. Your role includes helping students learn, aiding teacher practice, a range of administrative tasks, support with students' health and wellbeing, and assisting during breaks, sports, whole school-based activities, and excursions. You will work with teachers to follow individual learning plans and support strategies.
We are looking for someone who cares about helping adolescent students with diverse needs. May have experience or interest in areas such as autism, mental health, and emotional communication, qualifications or experience in education support or disability services, effective oral and written communication skills, competence in using computer software programs such as Microsoft Office, Canva, AI.

Essential Requirements
* Working with Children Check Clearance
* Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
* Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
* Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).
Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
* Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
* Effective communication skills.
