Overview

The Strong Women Rangers' Coordinator provides direct supervision, guidance, and support to a small team of Indigenous Women Rangers working across the Nyikina Mangala and BMM Native Title Areas. Together, the Women Rangers' Coordinator and team collaborate closely with the Yimardoo Warra Men Rangers Coordinator and their team to deliver the Healthy Country Plan and Joint Rangers Work Plan. This includes oncountry activities such as Right Way Fire, threatened species management—including the Wiliji (Blackflanked rock wallaby) program—horticulture, landscape restoration, Sea Country management, and the control of weeds, feral animals, and other biosecurity concerns, as well as language, law, and cultural initiatives.

The Strong Women Rangers' Coordinator also works in partnership with Traditional Owners, through the Healthy Country Advisory Committee (HCAC), to plan and implement land and sea management activities that align with the Healthy Country Plan and reflect the aspirations of Nyikina and Mangala people. In addition, the Coordinator collaborates with the Junior Ranger Program Coordinator to mentor and support the development of Junior Rangers, helping to create meaningful pathways into future employment for young women.

Objectives

* Completion of the annual work plan as guided by the Nyikina Mangala Healthy Country Plan and Joint Works Plan for the protection and promotion of natural and cultural environment and heritage.
* Implement the Strong Womens' Rangers Development Plan.
* An effective team of rangers working together to develop their own personal and professional skills.
* Meaningful engagement of Nyikina Mangala Traditional Owners through the HCAC and in ranger activities.
* Completion by rangers of formal training in Conservation Land Management and related practical outcomes through field work.
* Engage with the Kimberley Ranger Network including liaison, networking and support with other ranger teams.
* Responsible and effective financial management of the annual budgets.
* Movement towards financial sustainability and independence for the ranger group through fee for service arrangements.

Duties

* The Employee will report to the Land, Waters & Heritage (LW&H) Unit Manager and be responsible for the following tasks under the supervision of the LW&H Unit Manager:
* Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Strong Women's Rangers, including provision of workplace leadership, mentoring, personal development plans and performance reviews.
* Support the Land Waters and Heritage Unit Manager to organise a minimum of 4 meetings for the Healthy Country Advisory Committee, Rangers (and other key stakeholders as required) to plan, manage and monitor the annual Joint Works Plan, weekly work plans, rosters and budget.
* Work with the LW&H Unit Manager and Yimardoo Warra Rangers to develop and manage the Joint Works Plan and budget and provide quarterly performance and financial reports against the plan and budget to the Healthy Country Advisory Committee and the General Manager (GM).
* Support the LW&H Unit Manager to develop activity and budget reports for the Strong Women's Rangers Program as required by relevant funding bodies.
* Under the guidance of Special Projects – Ranger Programs Growth & Support Officer, implement the Walalakoo Strong Women Rangers Development Plan 2025-6.
* Ensure effective day to day administrative management of the Strong Women's Rangers Program including timesheets and employee forms, preparation of Traditional Owner payment forms, raise purchase orders and submit invoices for supplier payments. Plan, supervise and participate in ranger field activities, including to remote locations, associated with completing the Joint Works Plan and HCP targets.
* Liaise with the Special Projects – Ranger Programs Growth & Support Officer (WAC), WREN Coordinator (KLC), TAFE & other relevant training and partnership providers to support, encourage and assist Rangers to complete scheduled training courses and develop their professional and personal skills as needed.
* Support the delivery of fee for service opportunities and projects that support the development of the Ranger group and HCP aspirations.
* Assist researchers to engage in on-country research with the Ranger team and direct research requests through the appropriate processes within the organisation.
* Assist in the establishment of key Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that the Strong Women's Rangers team continues to grow in capacity and professionalism.
* Work with the Yimardoo Warra Rangers Coordinator for the care, maintenance and safekeeping of equipment and resources used by all Rangers.
* Always ensure compliance by Rangers with cultural protocols and WAC Policy and Procedures, including the promotion of safe working practices and instruction of Rangers in OH & S policy and procedures;
* Participate and assist in WAC events, implement WAC policies and contribute to their development in relation to Land and Sea Management.
* Other duties as directed by the LW&H Unit Manager and HCAC.

Key Performance Indicators

* Deliver the Annual Work Plan, Complete Healthy Country Plan and Joint Ranger Works Plan tasks on time. Submit quarterly reports when required.
* Support and Grow the Women Rangers Team
* Provide regular mentoring and checkins. Rangers show progress in skills, confidence and work readiness. Rangers attend and complete planned training.
* Work Effectively with Traditional Owners
* Hold at least 4 Healthy Country Advisory Committee meetings each year. Ensure TOs are involved in planning and oncountry activities.
* Keep Program Administration Running Smoothly Timesheets, procurement and invoices completed accurately and on time. Meet safety, cultural and organisational policy requirements.
* Support Fee for Service and Partnerships
* Assist with delivery of external projects and services. Maintain good relationships with researchers, partners and trainer providers.
* Look After Equipment and Field Operations
* Equipment is kept in safe, working condition. Field trips are wellplanned and follow safety procedures.

Selection Criteria

* Understanding of Nyikina and Mangala culture and ability to work respectfully with Traditional Owners.
* Experience supervising or supporting a team.
* Ability to mentor Aboriginal women in a culturally appropriate way.
* Experience in oncountry work such as fire, ferals, weeds, threatened species, river management or horticulture.
* Able to plan work programs, manage logistics and meet deadlines.
* Capable of managing budgets and reporting.
* Experience with timesheets, procurement, compliance and recordkeeping.
* Able to work well with ranger networks, researchers, trainers and other partners.
* Driver's licence.
* Fit for fieldwork and remote travel.
* Police Clearance and Working with Children's Check (or ability to obtain).
* Qualifications in Conservation and Land Management, Environmental Science or Community Development.
* Experience with feeforservice work.
* 4WD, first aid or remotearea training.
