About the Role
The Division of Surgery at Canberra Hospital provides comprehensive surgical and critical care services to the ACT and surrounding regions, including a newly established 4-bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a 36-bed Adult ICU. This state-of-the-art facility supports short-term critical care for children, with increasing paediatric presentations and robust collaboration with Paediatric Medicine, Surgery, and tertiary PICU networks.
We are seeking a specialist with experience in adult and paediatric intensive care, or a dedicated PICU specialist. The role includes providing critical care to children, supported by ICU colleagues with paediatric expertise and paediatric anaesthetists. Depending on experience and interest, the position may also include participation in the adult ICU on-call roster. Ongoing performance reviews will support professional development across clinical governance, education, and research. Strong research links are maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. The hospital has well developed post graduate teaching programs and a fully equipped medical library.
The preferred candidate may be considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews. No remuneration is attached to the University position. The employee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to Canberra Health Services for clinical/research matters.

Prior to commencement, successful candidates will be required to hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, meet credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC), undergo a pre-employment National Police Check, and comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

Relocation expenses reimbursement for interstate candidates on permanent and long term appointments (conditions apply).
