In this role, you'll:


Help shape the future of local manufacturing in NSW. As Transport's Infrastructure Projects & Engineering division lead subject matter expert you will drive the NSW Government's manufacturing priorities across major programs and projects. You'll strengthen NSW's industrial capability, support high value jobs, and guide initiatives that build sustainable and resilient supply chains. The role leads policy development and implementation, embeds local manufacturing outcomes through clear guidelines and standards, and partners closely with stakeholders to deliver strategic, evidence based insights across government, and meaningful industry, workforce, and community benefits.

Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships across the transport cluster, NSW Government agencies, industry, and other key stakeholders to support effective policy and program delivery. Lead engagement with federal, state, and local government partners to maximise jobs, skills, and workforce diversity outcomes, and help resolve policy issues with ministers and senior leaders across government.

Design and maintain robust reporting tools and processes to assess progress and measure success, including local content measurement.

Chair and participate in internal and cross government working groups to support collaboration, alignment, and delivery of local manufacturing outcomes.

Develop and motivate a professional, ethical, and effective team with a clear focus on the delivery of outcomes and the continued development of capabilities across the branch.

Fixed term, fulltime opportunity to 30 June 2028 | Home office 680 George St Sydney. Hybrid work arrangements, team anchor days currently Monday and Thursday.

About you


You are a respected industry professional with deep understanding of the manufacturing sector, particularly in heavy engineering, fleet, or rolling stock environments. You bring both technical insight and the ability to work constructively across government, industry, and project teams. Your experience includes:

• Strong practical knowledge of the manufacturing sector, especially heavy engineering and/or fleet/rolling stock.


• Hands on experience developing and delivering manufacturing workforce capability or skills programs.
• Well established networks across government, peak bodies, and the manufacturing industry.
• A track record of addressing key industry challenges and delivering meaningful results.
• Credibility as a subject matter expert or recognised leader within the manufacturing industry.
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively and maintain positive intent in complex, fast paced environments.
• Demonstrated experience in policy development and regulatory reform, with a sound understanding of machinery of government and relevant legislative frameworks.
• Knowledge of policy issues and frameworks relevant to local manufacturing.
• Experience embedding local content and/or local manufacturing objectives into project processes and decision making.
