Primary objective
Provide high level coordination and project management of internal audits and reviews, risk assessments, internal control
and probity activities for the Transport Safety and Services division and conduct audits and investigations under relevant
legislation governing transport and related services and activities.

Context statement
The Policy and Reform Branch supports the Transport Safety and Services division by driving policy and reform projects to
improve service delivery business processes, assess and audit risk, develop media and communications and complete system
updates in alignment with departmental processes.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Produce and deliver an annual program of assurance activities, audits, and reviews of high-risk divisional business

activities, including the Authorised Inspector Scheme.
2. Assist with project management and policy development to support the division's risk management, internal controls, and

probity activities.
3. Conduct regular audits and reviews in accordance with Auditing Standards, Acts, Regulations and relevant departmental

policies, procedures, and systems to highlight achievements and shortfalls in the implementation of the internal controls
and risk management processes, procedures and systems as required.

4. Conduct investigations including misconduct, fraud by agency staff, contractors and authorised agents and inspectors.
5. Undertake detailed compliance focused reviews and analysis of complaints and claims against divisional staff, contractors

and authorised agents and inspectors to ensure legislative requirements and contractual obligations are met.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. High level conceptual, analytical, and systematic thinking skills with developing strategic thinking.
2. Demonstrated strong audit, investigation, and analysis proficiency with ability to remain objective.
3. Demonstrated ability to interrogate data and manipulate complex datasets from diverse sources.
4. Sound communication skills including the ability to adjust style to successfully negotiate with, and influence, diverse

groups and to communicate technical and complex issues in plain language.
5. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle highly sensitive information.
6. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, examine legislation, examine evidence, exercise sound judgement,

and deliver defensible findings and recommendations whilst maintaining impartiality, objectivity, and professionalism.
7. Demonstrated experience in the preparation of reports, correspondence, and briefings.

Desirable
1. A Certificate IV or Diploma qualification in compliance, audit, assurance investigations, law enforcement, or related

discipline relevant to the role.
