Role Highlights

The Strategic Communications Lead provides specialist capability to guide Fremantle Ports' external communication activities, including digital media and corporate communications functions, and oversees the strategic approach to internal communication to maintain a clear and consistent organisational narrative.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Leads communication planning for significant operational and strategic initiatives, including risk identification and messaging alignment.
* Coordinates and delivers strategic external communications, including media, digital and campaign activity, to strengthen Fremantle Ports' public profile.
* Manages media enquiries, including triaging requests, coordinating responses, supporting spokespeople, and providing timely advice.
* Monitors media coverage and emerging issues, delivering insights, recommendations, and proactive issue‐management strategies.
* Oversees the strategic approach to internal communications to support organisational alignment and embed key initiatives.
* Manages digital channels, including website content and social media presence, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, relevance, and strategic alignment.
* Provides data‐driven insights to evaluate and improve communication performance across media, digital, and internal channels.
* Works collaboratively to coach internal teams and project leads, providing strategic communications advice and support, and undertakes other duties as required.
What Makes You a Great Fit
* A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience (8+ years) in strategic communications, public relations, project management or related field.
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to confidently present messages in a clear, concise and articulate manner.
* Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead a high performing team.
* Understanding of government media processes and procedures.
* Demonstrated analytical, research and problem‐solving skills.
* Demonstrated competency across a range of digital skills and platforms.
* Strong ability to collaborate and build strong working relationships at all levels.
* Strong attention to detail and quality control.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
* Experience in maritime or other transport industries.
* Experience with project management in a communications context.
