Mount Gambier & District Health Service is currently seeking skilled nurses to join our expanding Medical Ward nursing team. As part of a Labor government election commitment, we will soon be opening two dedicated Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Inpatient Beds within the Medical Ward. This exciting development offers experienced medical nurses a chance to broaden their skills, as well as an opportunity for nurses working in the AOD sector to transition into a new practice setting. The Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Inpatient Bed model of care is the first of its kind for regional South Australia, with few comparable models nationally. What’s exciting? Two new beds opening in a purpose-built space featuring private ensuites, a shared lounge, courtyard, and multipurpose room. Provision of local, medically supervised withdrawal care for people dependent on alcohol and other drugs. Admissions will be planned, voluntary, and focused on keeping care closer to home while strengthening partnerships with local AOD services. Positions Available: Registered Nurse (RN) – Level 1 Clinical Nurse (RN2) Enrolled Nurse (EN) Key Responsibilities (All Classifications): Deliver safe and effective nursing care to patients within medical and withdrawal unit settings. Develop clinical skills through continuous professional learning and hands-on experience. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated physical and psychosocial support. Maintain accountability for your practice standards and contribute to quality care by supporting team members and delegating appropriately. Registered Nurse (RN1) Key Responsibilities: Assess individual patient needs and plan, implement, or coordinate appropriate service delivery from a range of accepted options. Deliver direct, person-centred nursing care and individual case management to patients on a shift-by-shift basis within the clinical area. Provide health education, counselling, and rehabilitation programs to improve health outcomes for individual patients and groups. Support and guide newer or less experienced staff, including Enrolled Nurses, student nurses, and other workers providing basic nursing care. Consolidate knowledge and skills through continuous professional development and experience, progressing from novice to proficient practitioner. Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient safety and care standards. Contribute to the education and orientation of new staff and preceptorship of graduates. Demonstrate effective communication, teamwork, and a commitment to consumer and family-centred care. Clinical Nurse (RN2) Key Responsibilities: Provide proficient clinical leadership, service coordination and direct/indirect patient care. Support change management initiatives and quality improvement projects within the unit. Facilitate learning and development for students, new staff, and junior colleagues. Contribute to professional and clinical audit, research and evidence-based practice initiatives Enrolled Nurse (ENC/END) Key Responsibilities: Provide direct nursing care under the supervision and delegation of Registered Nurses. Engage with patients, families and carers to deliver person-centred care and education. Support quality improvement activities and contribute to teamwork and clinical coordination. Maintain responsibility for your scope of practice and assist with supervision of students/AINs. What We Are Looking For: Registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse or Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, holding a current practising certificate. Enrolled Nurse candidates must be enrolled or eligible for enrolment as a Nurse (EN, EN-MA, ENDP) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Demonstrated clinical competence in the relevant area of nursing practice, aligned with professional standards. Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental care for patients undergoing medical and substance withdrawal treatment. A strong commitment to teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement in care delivery. Dedication to safety, cultural respect, quality improvement and positive patient outcomes.
