At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

This trainee role is based in School Infrastructure, which delivers new school buildings, major upgrades and maintenance strategies to ensure every school-aged child has access to high quality education facilities at their local public school. This encompasses the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for recent school leavers to start their career with School Infrastructure while completing a Certificate IV in Project Management Practice through TAFE NSW.

You'll gain practical workplace experience and build foundational Infrastructure project management skills while contributing to the delivery of school infrastructure that supports public education across NSW.

As a trainee, you will work four days per week within School Infrastructure and have one day of paid study leave each week to attend TAFE NSW.

In this role, you will:
• Support day-to-day project activities and team tasks.
• Assist with basic administration, records, and document management.
• Help coordinate meetings, emails, and follow-up actions.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture.

What we offer
• A unique entry-level opportunity within a high-demand infrastructure environment.
• Comprehensive work-based learning, mentoring and development.
• Exposure to experienced infrastructure professionals and project teams.
• Hybrid working arrangements may be available in line with operational requirements.

About you
You are motivated, reliable and ready to start your career. You're someone who enjoys working with others, is keen to learn new skills, and takes pride in doing things accurately.
• Be willing to undertake and successfully complete a Certificate IV Project Management.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office software applications.
• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role
• Completed Year 12 or obtained the Higher School Certificate (HSC) (or equivalent) within the past two years.
• Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
• Current and valid driver license (above learner level) and willingness and ability to travel to worksites.
