Reporting to the Head of Library and Information Services the Research Librarian provides support to fee-earners and the business services team with a focus on connecting library users with legal research resources, current awareness solutions and business intelligence information.
Responsibilities
Research and Current Awareness:
- Deliver client/user facing support as directed
- Identify and utilise the best available research resources for information needs.
- Monitor the library’s technical systems and commercial subscriptions diagnose errors initiate and settle resolution process.
- Maintain accurate data held in library systems
- Deliver authoritative research content to fee-earners and business support teams.
- Administer current awareness systems that meet the needs of fee-earners and business support teams.
- Conduct induction training and participate in the delivery of training and education services as directed.
- Engage with Head of Library and Information around process and procedure efficiencies.
Professional Development:
- Support and promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Identify and engage with professional growth and skill enhancement opportunities.
- Promote awareness of library services to fee-earners and business services teams.
- Attend and complete mandatory training and education
Client Service and Relationship Management:
- Fulfil requests for support according to required deadlines and timing
- Deliver excellent client service delivery by managing priorities and developing professional relationships.
- Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded.
- Deliver information support to clients providing an opportunity to enhance and improve work outcomes.
- Allocate appropriate capacity to maintaining library systems and physical space.
Financial Management:
- Advise on library budget expenditure, ensuring cost-effective utilisation of resources.
- Comply with financial controls and reporting mechanisms to track operational expenses and ensure accountability.
- Ensure invoices, receipts and related documentation are retained and made available as needed
Process Improvement:
- Identify process improvements to enhance productivity and efficiency in the delivery of library services.
- Comply with licencing and copyright requirements.
Technology and Innovation:
- Maintain awareness of emerging information products and innovations in information delivery practices.
- Build awareness of industry trends and technological advancements to enhance the user experience and research outcomes.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identify and communicate any existing or emerging risks.
- Assist with audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain awareness and comply with applicable policies.
Requirements
- Completed or progress in undergraduate or post-graduate qualification in Library and Information Science, Knowledge Management.
- Qualifications and/or certifications in and area relevant to the firm’s business.
- Experience in a professional services library and information services environment is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and cooperate within a professional services environment.
- Experience in delivering advanced information support in a professional services environment.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Focus on efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Strong skills in the use and application research resources.
- Ability to manage priorities in a quick-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to promote library services.
