Location: Regional Queensland (Relocation Supported)
Industry: Not for Profit
Focus: Operational Leadership | Service Quality | Community Outcomes
Candidate Background: NFP, Community Services, Government Funded Programs
The Opportunity:
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a newly created executive role within a well-established, purpose-led community organisation delivering essential services across regional Queensland.
The organisation has evolved significantly in recent years and is now entering its next phase of growth, maturity and operational development. As a result, this role has been created to strengthen executive leadership across service delivery, bring greater consistency and visibility across a diverse operational portfolio, and help translate strategy into strong, measurable day-to-day outcomes.
This is not a corporate COO role in the traditional sense. It is far more grounded in people, services and community impact. It will suit a senior operational leader who is at their best close to the frontline, leading through experienced managers, lifting quality and accountability across services, and helping shape the future direction of a complex, multi-service organisation.
For the right person, it offers the chance to take real ownership of a meaningful service portfolio, work closely with an engaged CEO and Board, and make a visible contribution to the quality, sustainability and impact of services that matter.
Role Profile:
Reporting to the CEO, this role will take broad responsibility for service delivery leadership across a multi-program community services environment. While the title is Chief Operating Officer, the true centre of gravity is operational leadership across services rather than a heavily corporate or finance-led COO mandate.
Key areas of focus include:
* Leading senior operational managers across a diverse portfolio of community and support services
* Creating stronger alignment, consistency and accountability across service lines
* Ensuring services are delivered to a high standard, with a strong focus on quality, client outcomes and community impact
* Strengthening operational reporting, service visibility and performance measurement across the business
* Embedding continuous improvement disciplines across programs, systems and service delivery practices
* Supporting a culture of compliance, governance and risk awareness within a regulated environment
* Helping the organisation scale effectively as services evolve and contractual complexity increases
* Acting as a key link between strategy and execution, ensuring operational priorities are translated into practical action
* Building strong internal relationships across leadership, frontline teams and corporate support functions
* Representing the organisation credibly with external stakeholders including funders, government and community partners
Successful Candidate Profile:
We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, but the strongest profiles are likely to come from community services, human services, disability, government-funded service environments or similarly complex, regulated operational settings.
This role requires a leader who can bring structure, maturity and calm to a broad service portfolio, while remaining people-oriented, visible and values-led in their approach. You will bring:
* Proven senior leadership experience across service delivery, operations or multi-program environments
* Experience leading through managers across diverse teams, locations or service lines
* A strong understanding of compliance, governance and risk within regulated service settings
* The ability to lift operational discipline without losing sight of people, culture and purpose
* Strong commercial and operational judgement, with the ability to balance mission, service quality and sustainability
* Experience improving reporting, accountability frameworks and performance visibility
* A collaborative and low-ego leadership style, with the credibility to work closely with an experienced CEO and leadership team
* The confidence to operate both strategically and hands-on, depending on what the situation requires
* Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, both internally and externally
* A genuine alignment with purpose-led work and a desire to contribute in a meaningful, community-focused environment
