How you'll make a difference

KWHB has an exciting opportunity for a full-time
Strong Men Leading Change Project Officer
to join our Big Rivers Health Promotion team, based in
Katherine, NT
, with regular travel across the Katherine West region.

Reporting to the
Manager, Big Rivers Health Promotion
, this position will lead the coordination and delivery of a culturally grounded, community-led initiative focused on preventing
Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence (DFSV)
.

You will work closely with Elders, local leaders, and men of all ages to facilitate healing, strengthen leadership, and promote positive masculinities aligned with local cultural protocols.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Coordinating and facilitating culturally safe yarning circles and consultations across KWHB communities to explore men's attitudes, beliefs, and experiences related to DFSV

* Providing community-based education on the drivers and impacts of DFSV, promoting available support services, and fostering understanding of healing pathways

* Planning healing-centred activities such as bush trips, storytelling sessions, and cultural programs that support men's wellbeing and reconnection to culture

* Collaborating with Elders and community leaders to ensure cultural alignment and strengthen local leadership throughout the project

* Assisting in developing a sustainability framework to integrate successful project elements into ongoing KWHB programs

What you'll bring to the team

To be considered for this position, you'll be a
male Project Officer
who will work primarily with male community members and young men in alignment with cultural protocols.

You'll be
grounded, empathetic, and non-judgemental
, with strong
relationship-building and facilitation skills
that enable you to support men through sensitive conversations around behavioural change.

KWHB is seeking someone who demonstrates
authentic community engagement experience
and the
emotional intelligence
to hold space for complex conversations. Whether you've worked in men's leadership, youth work, community development, health promotion, or another field where you've supported men or teams, your ability to
connect, listen, and empower others
will be what stands out.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged to apply.

You'll also bring:

* Experience working within Aboriginal communities or a strong understanding of
cultural safety and trauma-informed practice

* Proven ability to
build trust and rapport
across diverse groups and guide meaningful conversations in a culturally safe way

* Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
, with the confidence to facilitate yarning circles or group sessions

* Driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly to remote communities (approximately 50% of the role)

* Current COVID-19 immunisation certificate (minimum 1 dose required)

* NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) and National Police Check, or ability to obtain prior to commencement

Formal tertiary qualifications (e.g. Social Work, Community Development, Health Promotion, or similar) are desirable but not essential. KWHB values real-world experience, cultural capability, and leadership qualities over formal education alone.
