Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking an Independent Member for its Audit and Risk Committee for a three-year term, starting February 2026.
The Audit and Risk Committee is an independent committee established under the Local Government Act 2020. The purpose of the Audit and Risk Committee is to support Council in discharging its oversight responsibilities relating to:
* Financial and performance reporting
* Risk management
* Protection and control of Council assets
* Monitoring and overseeing internal and external audit functions
* Monitoring effectiveness of assurance activities including internal and external audits
* Council's governance practice, including compliance with its policies and legislative and regulatory requirements.

Key details:
* Minimum of 4 committee meetings per year
* Competitive remuneration for a peri-urban Council
* In-person attendance preferred, with flexible attendance available by arrangement.
About the successful candidate:
The successful candidate for this role will have knowledge of:
* Understanding of financial management and Audit practices
* Understanding of risk, business continuity, and cyber security principals
* Reporting and Governance practices
* Ability to analyse information
* Knowledge of Local Government; and
* Capacity to commit to the workload required, to read agenda papers and attend Committee meetings.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a well-developed ability to apply appropriate analytical and strategic management skills, including experience within public sector management.
Formal qualifications and previous committee or board experience will be well regarded.
Interviews are scheduled to be conducted in December 2025.
Subject to satisfactory performance, the successful candidate may be reappointed for up to two additional two-year terms, in accordance with the Audit and Risk Committee Charter.
