Responsibilities
Identify, develop, promote and undertake a range of supportive, evidence‑based resources and activities aimed to reduce smoking uptake, promote smoke‑free spaces and support cessation in Aboriginal communities in the Barkly region.
* Support development, coordination and facilitation of positive engagement, interventions and activities in accordance with the TIS programme guidelines.
* Assist in delivery of regional smoking prevention campaigns, community events and information sharing.
* Build sustainable and respectful networks with communities across the Barkly region.
* Work with the National Best Practice Unit to design and deliver smoking prevention and cessation social‑marketing campaigns.
* Support organisational vision, mission and priorities.
* Identify and manage risk or potential risk to clients, reducing immediate concerns.
* Ensure all programme material is up to date and engaging for the target audience.
* Undertake administrative duties, report writing and manage electronic client data in compliance with funding obligations.
* Contribute to a culturally safe work environment and promote alcohol, tobacco and drug‑free workplace strategies.
* Collaborate with community, government and non‑profit agencies, representing Anyinginyi and the TIS programme.
* Maintain confidentiality and privacy as required.
* Participate in staff training, meetings and collaborative planning.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of systems and processes.
* Travel to remote communities.
About You
You must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and a member of the Tasmanian or Australian community. An Ochre Card (NT Working with Children's card) is required prior to commencement.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Health or equivalent, or willingness to undertake training.
* Experience in Aboriginal community health or welfare services with culturally responsive delivery.
* Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective networks with diverse Aboriginal groups.
* Track record of completing community forums or events with deadlines.
* Strong communication skills for reporting and informing multidisciplinary and cross‑cultural teams.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Current NT driver's licence.
Desirable
* Knowledge of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Regions.
* Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the region.
* 4WD training.
