OverviewThe RoleAn exciting opportunity to join the Merivale Design Team as the Head of Styling.
You will help lead the creative direction and operational execution of styling across Merivale's diverse portfolio of venues.
Responsible for shaping and safeguarding the brand's aesthetic vision, you will oversee the styling team to ensure each venue expresses its unique character while maintaining a consistent standard of excellence.This role requires a balance of strategic leadership and creative innovation: guiding concept development, mentoring a high-performing team, and collaborating with designers, operational teams, and external partners to deliver elevated guest experiences.
With a sharp eye for detail, deep industry expertise, and the ability to manage competing priorities at scale, you will set the benchmark for visual storytelling and style within the organisation.The role reports into the Design Director and is supported by a dedicated styling team.
As well as being Sydney-based you will be working across a diverse number of locations across Australia including Byron Bay, Narooma and Melbourne.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Creative DirectionDefine and lead the styling direction for new and existing projects, from concept through to installation.Working alongside Merivale's directors as well as the Design Director to set long-term creative vision and styling frameworks.Ensure brand consistency while allowing individuality and innovation at the venue level.Creative ExecutionSource, curate, and commission furniture, art, and objects that elevate the design intent and bring warmth, authenticity, and personality to our spaces.Keep ahead of trends, makers, and materials, bringing fresh inspiration and new ideas into the business.Work closely with the design director, architects, and project managers to integrate styling seamlessly into the broader design vision.Team LeadershipLead and mentor the styling team: seniors, stylists, and coordinators to help foster creativity and collaboration.Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development.Set and review performance goals, nurturing both creative and commercial accountability.Project Oversight & InnovationOversee styling across current openings, refurbishments, venue updates, and high-profile activations, including FF&E;, materiality, OS&E;, uniforms, and style guides.Champion innovation in sustainable sourcing, supplier partnerships, and materiality.Cross-Functional CollaborationCollaborate with Design, Operations, Events, and Brand to ensure styling supports business strategy.Represent the styling team in executive-level meetings and cross-department initiatives.Essentials8+ years' experience as an interior stylist, ideally within hospitality, retail, or high-end lifestyle environments.Highly organised with strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently.Skilled in sourcing, negotiating, and working with vendors and trades.A natural eye for design.Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire creative talent and manage multiple projects at once.A strong network of suppliers, artists, and makers, with curiosity to discover new voices and sources of inspiration.Organised, resourceful, and hands-on: equally comfortable developing concepts in the studio and installing pieces on site.The RewardJoining us means becoming part of a diverse team of nearly 5,000 people who are passionate about creating amazing experiences for our guests – and having fun while doing it!
