The NSW Rural General Practitioner Procedural Training Program, delivered through Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD), offers Fellowed General Practitioners the opportunity to undertake Advanced Skills Training (AST) in Anaesthetics at Griffith Base Hospital.
This program is ideal for GPs seeking to acquire or maintain anaesthetic procedural skills to support rural practice across NSW. Training is designed with flexibility in mind, recognising that many candidates continue part-time general practice while completing their AST.
Recruitment is focused on GPs committed to rural practice who currently reside—or are prepared to reside and practice - in rural NSW.
Where you'll be working
Griffith Base Hospital has recently undergone a major redevelopment, delivering modern clinical spaces, upgraded operating theatres, and contemporary patient care areas. The transformed facility provides an exceptional environment for advanced training, collaboration, and high-quality rural healthcare.
What you'll be doing
You will provide high-quality generalist and perioperative medical care at Griffith Base Hospital, supporting anaesthetic services under the supervision of the specialist team while contributing to safe patient management and continuity of care across MLHD.
As part of the NSW Rural General Practitioner Procedural Training Program, you will complete Advanced Skills Training in Anaesthetics, designed for Fellowed GPs wishing to develop or maintain procedural skills for rural practice. Training is flexible to support continuation of part-time community practice and is aligned to the needs of rural NSW.
You will be engaged as a Senior Registrar under the Public Hospital Medical Officers (State) Award, with an allowance applied to bring total remuneration to Staff Specialist Level 1, Year 5.
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners and / or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine
* Demonstrated ability to exercise a moderate degree of professional independence within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent skills, judgement and expertise.
* Demonstrated skills in and commitment to improvements in clinical care, patient safety and risk management processes, including the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to achieve change.
* High level interpersonal communication and team skills, and a sensitive approach to communication with patients, carers, other professionals, and the public.
* Demonstrated experience and well-developed skills in working within health care organisations and the outside community, including capacity to use electronic communications (e.g. electronic records) effectively.
* Evidence of participation in continuing professional development and commitment to the broader service objectives of the public health system, including the effective utilisation of resources, and participation in activities beyond direct patient care
* Demonstrated commitment to practicing medicine and advanced skill in a regional or rural setting in New South Wales.
