Purpose of the Position

The Cafe Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the school cafe and the canteen as needed by delivering efficient, hygienic, and high-quality food service. This role works closely with the Cafe Supervisor to ensure a welcoming, customer-focused experience for students, staff, and visitors.

This is a full-time, ongoing position during term time only. You will be stood down without pay during student vacation periods.

Key duties and responsibilities

Key results areas

* Food is prepared in a timely and efficient manner while always maintaining the highest level of hygiene.
* Food is prepared as directed by the Cafe Coordinator.
* Work environment is always maintained at the highest level of cleanliness.

Critical duties include

* Prepare food and beverage items to be sold at the café.
* Washing dishes and cleaning of cafe equipment, shelves and fridges.
* Sweeping and mopping of floors as directed.
* Assist in restocking Cafe with fresh supplies.
* Assist in catering for Food Service functions as directed.
* Other duties as delegated by Cafe Coordinator.

Other duties may include

*
o Assistance with events set-up, catering and clean-up.
o Supporting the operation of the school canteen as needed
o Counting of takings and cash handling.

Personal attributes

*
o Ability to work as part of a team.
o Ability to work in a fast paced, commercial kitchen.
o Ability to communicate with students, parents and staff in a friendly welcoming manner.
o Energetic and well organised, paying particular attention to personal cleanliness.
o Ability to adapt to the varied demands of life in the Cafe.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications and Experience

*
o Experience in food services, hospitality, or a café environment is essential.
o Food Safety Certificate or the ability to acquire.
o Previous experience in a barista role will be highly regarded
o Food handling experience.
o Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Additional Requirements

*
o Current Working with Children Check
o Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to gain one)
