Pet Therapy Volunteers
">
This role allows you to spend time with frail and elderly residents or patients in a residential aged care home, accompanied by your calm and gentle pet. You'll see the difference your furry friend can make as you sit and chat with them.
">
Your pet should meet certain criteria:
">
">
* Be calm and gentle in nature
">
* Be up-to-date with vaccinations and treatment of worms and fleas
">
* Have short and blunt nails
">
* Dogs should be kept on a lead at all times
">
">
The ideal candidate has a small-medium sized pet and is comfortable sitting in silence. Regular visits can improve quality of life and reduce feelings of isolation for older people.
">
You will be visiting a client who would greatly benefit from your company. As a volunteer, you are not only making a positive impact on their life but also enriching your own experience.
">
To become a volunteer, you must:
">
">
* Be 18 years or older
">
* Obtain a National Volunteer Police Check (arranged and paid for by HammondCare)
">
">
We are flexible and would be happy to discuss a suitable time for a 30-minute visit between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday. Visits could be weekly or fortnightly, depending on your availability.
