Job Title: Community Advocate
This role will enhance cultural understanding, provide support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals in navigating the justice system through mentorship and case management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Mentor participants and facilitate their engagement with services to foster a sense of belonging and empowerment.
* Coordinate community-based initiatives such as mental health, housing and legal assistance to develop personalized action plans.
* Advocate for participants' rights within the justice system and address barriers to justice.
* Establish relationships with stakeholders and represent the organization at community events.
* Monitor participant progress and maintain records to meet reporting requirements.
* Prepare engagement reports for courts and communicate participant outcomes within legal proceedings.
* Support participants during court appearances.
Essential Skills & Attributes:
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
* Passion for supporting local communities and promoting healing and well-being.
* Experience working with vulnerable populations and addressing complex social issues.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with stakeholders.
* Organisational skills including record-keeping, time management and coordination of multiple tasks.
