Manager Country, Culture and Environment

Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation – Busselton WA

The Manager Country, Culture and Environment leads the strategic and operational management of Karri Karrak's terrestrial and marine programs across Boodja.

The role is responsible for land and natural resource management, cultural heritage collaboration, environmental compliance, cooperative and joint management of the conservation estate, and the development of the Corporation's Sea Country program.

The Manager works closely with the Heritage Team, GIS Specialist, Traditional Custodians, and key government agencies to ensure culturally informed, compliant and strategically aligned management of Noongar Boodja.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Terrestrial Land and Natural Resource ManagementDevelop, implement, and monitor land management strategies and operational plansOversee conservation and rehabilitation projectsCoordinate ranger or field-based environmental programsMonitor environmental outcomes and maintain project reporting systemsSupport the Corporation / work alongside Heritage team and GIS Specialist to build out and administer Karri Karrak's land management GIS and IT system to support all work on BoodjaManage and deliver fee-for-service environmental baseline data capture and monitoring on BoodjaManage all land access matters including obligations under the ILUA, as well as collaborating with the Heritage team regarding all relevant legislation/settlement documentsEnsure alignment between Heritage and Lands calendars
* Cultural Heritage ProtectionWork jointly with the Heritage team to build ranger capacity in cultural heritage identification, preservation, management and curationWork collaboratively with Traditional Custodians, Elders, and Knowledge HoldersCoordinate all logistics, scheduling and accommodation (if require) for Rangers attending any heritage surveys, heritage monitoring, and other cultural heritage and consultative activities on Boodja
* Environmental Compliance and GovernanceEnsure organisational compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory obligationsWork alongside the heritage team to review and prepare submissions on environmental referrals, development applications, basic raw materials proposals, water abstraction licenses, and other activities on Boodja that could potentially have an effect on the environmentReview and provide input on DBCA forest management plansPrepare reports required by funding bodies, regulators, and stakeholdersDevelop and maintain environmental policies, procedures, and management frameworksMonitor risks associated with land use and environmental managementFacilitate the development and implementation of a Strategic Land Plan
* Stakeholder and Customer RelationshipsWork collaboratively with the Manager Partnerships and Implementation to build strong relationships with government, philanthropic investors and industry to ensure ongoing program funding through dedicated grants and maximising fee for service opportunities.
* Cooperative and Joint ManagementWorking in partnership with DBCA, lead and manage all aspects of the Corporation's Cooperative and Joint Management of the Conservation Estate, including:Coordinate and participate in the Cooperative Management CommitteeCoordinate and participate in the Joint Management BodyCoordinate the development of Healthy Country Plans for Joint Management where it is required
* Sea Country ProgramDevelop the Karri Karrak Sea Country program that is expected to include, but not limited to: marine patrols, visitor management, cultural heritage management activities, Back to Country programs, and marine park operations.To develop the program:Build strong partnerships with government agencies, research institutes, tourism operators, neighbouring Regional Corporations, fishers, and industry stakeholdersEnsure cultural governance frameworks and Traditional Custodian-led decision‐making is planned for implementation across all marine operationsDevelop program budgets and write funding proposals.Expand terrestrial WHS practices to the marine environment in readiness for implementation across all marine activities

SELECTION CRITERIA

* 5+ years' experience in conservation, or natural resource management, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.
* Experience working with Indigenous communities, including delivering conservation, community development, training, or capacity‐building programs.
* Strong leadership capability, including team management, planning, training and performance oversight.
* Broad operational skills across Land and Sea Country management, cultural programs, visitor management, and infrastructure.
* Financial management competence, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and securing grants and/or partnerships.
* High‐level stakeholder engagement experience across government, community, and industry.
* Experience with Healthy Country Planning
