The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact

As a vital part of our Criminal Law Practice, you'll help deliver high-quality legal services for mob by organising court files, coordinating schedules, and supporting our solicitors. You'll keep the office running smoothly while providing culturally respectful and professional support to clients and stakeholders. Each day, you will:

* Maintain accurate client records and manage file opening, closing, and archiving.
* Provide frontline support through reception and phone duties during office hours.
* Deliver high-level admin and secretarial support, including preparing legal documents.
* Liaise with solicitors, court staff, DCJ, and other professionals to support client matters.
* Assist clients with referrals and uphold timely, professional office standards.
* Work respectfully with mob for mob and follow ALS policies, and collaborate effectively with the team.

Your Story & Strengths

With respect and pride, you'll walk alongside community, with a deep understanding of cultural, social, and historical needs. You're committed to standing up for justice, supporting mob with care, and helping reduce cultural load and bring these values and strengths:

* Be a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, recognised by your community.
* Strong cultural knowledge, respect for mob, and ability to work in culturally safe ways.
* Commitment to social justice and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* Solid computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) and confident typing ability.
* Excellent phone manner, communication skills, and ability to engage respectfully with clients.
* Strong organisation, time management, confidentiality, and ability to work independently or in a team.
* Problem‑solving skills, with bonus value from experience in ACCOs or legal practice.

Our Journey Together

At ALS, you can discover a fulfilling career that truly makes an impact in the community. We also offer our staff a range of generous benefits including:

* Not-for-profit salary packaging to reduce your tax burden, which means you get to keep more of your hard‑earned money in your pocket.
* Annual leave loading of 17.5%, ensuring that you are rewarded for your time off and can enjoy a well‑deserved break.
* Career and professional development opportunities.

At ALS, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of safe recruitment practices. Therefore, it is essential that candidates either possess or have the capacity to obtain a current and valid Working with Children (NSW) or Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) check for this role.
