The Centre for Population Genomics (CPG) is a joint national initiative of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI). The Institutes are national leaders in genomic research, with complementary strengths spanning large-scale genomics, data science, population health, and clinical impact.

The Centre for Population Genomics is a young not-for-profit research initiative working to build a more equitable future for genomic medicine. We are a remote-first, geographically distributed hub for innovation in genomics, data science, and clinical translation, with over 40 team members located across Australia and New Zealand.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Operational Support Officer plays an important role in the flawless execution and delivery of the CPG's operational strategy. A key member of the Operations team, this individual ensures the efficient management of CPG's logistics, including onboarding, offboarding, policy and procedure development, event planning, scheduling and ad hoc administrative duties.

You will be instrumental in providing support across the CPG facilitating problem solving and developing solutions with the Leadership Team and team members. Furthermore, you will act as the face of CPG at both Garvan and MCRI, working closely with key stakeholders in both institutes to ensure the operational needs of CPG are met in a timely and efficient manner.

To excel in this role, you will be an adaptable, organised and detail-oriented individual capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously whilst maintaining a high standard of operation excellence. In addition to being a natural team player, you are comfortable with operating independently and autonomously.

This position presents a unique opportunity to leverage your operations expertise to support an environment that empowers our research teams and professional staff. Your contributions will enable us to develop nationally significant resources, offer new diagnoses to numerous children affected by rare genetic diseases, and ultimately create systems that deliver improved health information and innovative therapies to thousands of Australians.

The individual will ideally be physically based either at the Garvan Institute in Sydney or the MCRI in Melbourne.

CPG operates in a remote-first/hybrid working environment, but the individual will be required to regularly attend the office as well as quarterly in-person team events. The ideal candidate will thrive in a virtual work environment and display agility by integrating a combination of working from home and the office.

Salary: Up to $80,000 + 12% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The key responsibilities include:

* Working closely with the Operations Lead, you will be required to coordinate and deliver on all aspects of Operations at CPG.
* Working with the Operations team to assist with the end-to-end people operations, including employee onboarding and offboarding, ensuring a consistent, compliant, and positive experience across the employee lifecycle.
* Assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining CPG organisational policies and procedures, ensuring they are current, clearly documented, and aligned with business, legal, and cultural requirements.
* Working with key stakeholders, plan and coordinate CPG events, including logistics, scheduling, and liaising with vendors, to ensure successful event execution that aligns with the Centre's objectives.
* Act as a primary liaison between CPG and key stakeholders at Garvan and MCRI ensuring the operational needs of CPG are effectively communicated and met.
* Facilitate problem-solving and develop solutions in collaboration with both leadership and staff to address operational challenges and improve efficiency.
* Provide support to other Operations staff, and staff across the CPG teams
* Actively invest in building and maintaining a positive, supportive and high-performing culture within the Operations Team, and CPG more broadly.
* Other duties as assigned.
* All staff are required to comply with Garvan's workplace policies (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan's Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy, including working in accordance with the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan's number one priority.

ABOUT YOU

The key skills and experience include:

* At least 3 years of experience in operations roles, including experience overseeing policy development and management, administrative tasks, and team support
* Outstanding people skills, proactive in communication, and capable of fostering relationships across teams and institutes
* A genuine passion and enthusiasm for CPG's mission
* Demonstrate a proactive approach to operations support, with a keen ability to pinpoint and resolve bottlenecks effectively
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated experience successfully working in a remote-first environment
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a complex and dynamic workload
* Ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary team setting including biologists, data scientists, software engineers, community engagement specialists, and project management staff
* Familiarity with Slack, GSuite, and Atlassian products would be beneficial but not required

FURTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

* As the appointed candidate will hold an honorary appointment with the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, a Working with Children & National Police Clearance (if appointed) in compliance with the Victorian Government's Child Safety Standards is required.
