Primary objective
The Senior Geospatial Information Officer provides Geographic Information System (GIS) services, support, and expertise to
a diverse range of internal and external clients.
Context statement
Geospatial Services supports natural resource management programs with the provision of spatial data analysis, GIS services,
spatial system support and maintenance of web mapping applications.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, manage, and maintain corporate datasets, their attributes, and associated metadata.
2. Provide GIS services to interrogate datasets and supply quality assured spatial information in the form of finished maps
and associated products for a diverse range of internal and external clients.
3. Contribute to the automation of the Department's natural resources databases, including providing input to the
development of appropriate user applications.
4. Liaise with information custodians and end user clients to provide value added GIS information, services, and products.
5. Provide internal training and support to develop the capacity of other regional staff in GIS processes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in natural resource management or GIS, or substantial relevant experience in a field of technical
work closely related to the duties of the position.
2. Extensive demonstrated ability in conducting GIS analysis methodology to support decision making.
3. Extensive working knowledge of GIS software and data management tools, database applications, spreadsheets, and
word processing.
4. Demonstrated ability with spatial data formats and data management techniques and in the production and presentation
of a range of spatial information products.
5. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate complex technical concepts in a manner
suited to the target audience and to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
6. Able to work independently and effectively prioritise tasks and meet multiple project deadlines with minimal supervision
and limited access to technical assistance.
7. High level of attention to detail with the ability to check and quality assure data collection and GIS products produced by
others.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of the Northern Territory's natural resources environment.
2. Demonstrated proficiency creating cartographic quality mapping products (e.g. prepared in MicroStation, ArcGIS Pro or
QGIS).
3. Ability to effectively support and train staff to develop their capacity in use of GIS management of datasets.
4. Knowledge, experience, and field(s) of expertise relevant to the drone industry and capturing remote sensing data.
