As we continue to ramp up our operations, we are seeking a motivated Underground Planning Engineer to join our team at our Kalgoorlie operation and play a key role in our journey toward sustainable, multi-operation gold production.

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Underground Manager, the Underground Planning Engineer will play a critical role in driving safe, efficient, and sustainable mining operations at Black Cat Syndicate.
You will be accountable for leading mine planning and design activities across multiple sites, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that operational plans are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with the company's growth objectives.
As part of this key role, you will contribute to developing innovative systems and processes, helping shape the future of the company's operations.
Key focus areas: Mine Planning & Design
* Lead the preparation, review, and audit of mid- to long-term mine designs, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated at every stage.
* Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, geology, metallurgy, geotechnical, and production engineering, to ensure safe, efficient, and economically viable mine designs.
* Develop and implement stope plans to maximize ore recovery while ensuring safe and sustainable extraction.
* Oversee mine infrastructure analysis and projects aimed at improving water management and dewatering systems.
Project Management & Execution
* Lead and contribute to key capital projects and cost estimations for mining activities, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
* Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that mine designs and plans are effectively executed, providing input on project risks, cost considerations, and operational challenges.
* Participate in the design and implementation of systems that will scale as the business grows, ensuring that processes are efficient, effective, and adaptable.
* Foster a collaborative work environment, engaging with diverse teams across all levels of the business to ensure alignment on mine planning objectives.
* Take an active role in developing junior team members and promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
* Support the operational team in managing risks and challenges related to underground mining, ensuring that safety is always a top priority.
* Monitor and report on the performance of mining operations, identifying opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives across mine planning, design, and execution, ensuring that best practices are adopted and adhered to.
* Ensure that all mine planning activities are aligned with Black Cat's broader operational and environmental goals.
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about mining and keen to grow within a supportive, collaborative team.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or equivalent).
* Experience in underground mining, ideally in gold, with exposure to various mining methods and engineering.
* Knowledge of capital projects and cost estimation for mining activities and support services.
* Familiarity with mine planning and scheduling software, preferably Deswik
* Experience working underground (either completed or minimal time is fine).
* A team-oriented attitude and the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the business.
* WA Driver's License
