Position Information
Killara High School (enrolment approximately 1800 students, including over 50% students from a language background other than English) is a co-educational comprehensive high school with an outstanding reputation for providing opportunities where all students can excel in academic, sporting, cultural, leadership and community service endeavours.
The school has an extensive curriculum enrichment program that includes 12 music ensembles, three dance ensembles, drama, sport, debating, Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, chess, light and sound, and Killara Academy University Preparation program. The school's wellbeing programs focus on developing the whole student and include camps, workshops and a comprehensive mentor group program.
The collaborative leadership team is highly engaged with students, parents and staff who form an articulate and confident community with high expectations. The school has a strong focus on rigorous professional learning which targets the improvement of student learning outcomes.
Killara High School values its strong links with its community and various universities. The Parents and Citizens Association has a close and supportive working relationship with the school, and the P & C hosts several major fundraising events each year. The school also has strong partnerships with local primary schools through The Killara Schools Partnership program.
Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated ability to lead the whole school timetable process including timetable construction, effective implementation and ongoing evaluation in a large, diverse, comprehensive school setting.
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail with ability to ensure NESA compliance and appropriate subject pathways for all students in years 10 to 12.
* Proven ability to collaborate with the executive team to effectively initiate, lead and monitor the implementation of the school's strategic directions and whole school programs within a high expectations environment.
General Selection Criteria
* Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
* Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
* Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
