About The Opportunity
As a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with our Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service (SUPPS), you'll play a vital role in providing trauma-informed, harm-minimisation care to women and families from pregnancy through the early postnatal period.
In This Rewarding Role, You'll
Provide perinatal drug and alcohol assessment, coordinated care planning, and therapeutic education for women and families up to three months post-birth.
Work across both community and hospital settings, building strong relationships with maternity, child and family, and Drug and Alcohol Counselling Service (DACS) teams.
Focus on healthy family functioning, enhancing parenting skills, and managing complex challenges as they arise.
Deliver holistic, evidence-based care that supports positive outcomes for parents, babies, and their support networks.

From your first day, you'll be well supported and will have access to guidance from your Line Manager, District Manager and Allied Health Lead, clinical support from a Clinical Midwife Consultant (CMC) and DACS Specialists, a structured orientation, ongoing education, and strong interdisciplinary partnerships.

The Substance Use in Pregnancy and Parenting Service (SUPPS) is a multidisciplinary team within Hunter New England Health, committed to improving the health and wellbeing of families experiencing substance use challenges. We collaborate closely with Addiction Medicine Specialists, Clinical Midwife Consultants (CMC), and Allied Health professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care. What We're Looking For
We're seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife (AHPRA-registered) who is passionate about supporting women and families affected by substance use.
You'll Bring
Experience in perinatal care, drug & alcohol, women's health, or community nursing/midwifery
Strong skills in comprehensive assessment, risk identification, and care planning
Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary care and facilitate case reviews or interagency meetings
Commitment to culturally safe practice, especially with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
Clear, compassionate communication and confident documentation skills
A non-judgemental, trauma-informed, and values-led approach to care
Current unrestricted driver's licence and ability to travel for work, including driving long distances and working from several service sites across the Lower and Upper Hunter sector
