The work area

RevenueWA
collects revenue on behalf of the Government and pays grants and subsidies to Western Australians. Although a business unit within DTF, the Commissioner of State Revenue is an independent statutory role and is personally responsible for the administration of State taxation and grant laws by RevenueWA staff. This administrative function covers the application of duties, land tax and payroll tax laws, as well as carrying out compliance audits and investigations, and developing revenue related legislation. RevenueWA increases taxpayer awareness through education programs and manages the legislative appeals process.

The Department of Treasury and Finance currently operates under two sets of organisational values, following its formation on 1 July 2025. The values of
clarity, empathy, growth and collaboration
continue to guide everything we do in
RevenueWA.
In time, as we settle in our new structure and culture, we will collaboratively develop a unified set of values that represent who we are as the Department of Treasury and Finance.

The role

The Principal Review Officer represents the Commissioner of State Revenue in determining objections and managing applications for review and appeals in the State Administrative Tribunal and appeal courts, focusing on complex matters that require a deep understanding of the State Revenue environment and a positive and effective focus on external customer relationships. The position also provides leadership to and inspires excellence in the Review team by modelling the Department's values and aligning the team with departmental objectives, capability requirements and customer needs.

This position operates in the context of Leading Others. This means that you will motivate and enable others to deliver high quality work. You will balance time between doing the work and coaching, guiding and developing others. This requires a significant shift in thinking from 'doing' to supporting others to 'do good work'; and consideration of present and future needs when allocating time to the team and projects you lead. You will articulate how work is to be done, providing clear direction and feedback.

The ideal candidate

The successful applicant will:

* Be easily able to comprehend and interpret legislation, and readily understand the policy being legislative schemes;
* Have excellent communication skills, and be able to explain complex concepts using plain English;
* Enjoy applying their analytical skills to a wide variety of legal and factual problems;
* Have a keen eye for detail; and
* Be capable of developing and supporting strategies that influence and improve work outputs within the Review Branch and across RevenueWA.

How to apply

If you have what it takes to be part of our dynamic and forward-thinking team, submit the following in MS Word or PDF format only:

1. A comprehensive CV that shows your skills, experiences and key achievements, including the contact details of two referees (with one being your current or most recent supervisor).
2. Cover letter of two (2) pages or less, outlining your suitability to the role in the context of the Essential Requirements, leadership behaviours and our Values.

You will need to
demonstrate your alignment to the business area's Values
throughout the process to be considered suitable.

Please ensure you apply before the closing deadline as
we will not accept late and incomplete applications.
