Your new role
As a Payroll support, you'll be the first point of contact for payroll and people-related enquiries, providing clear, accurate advice and support to employees and managers. Working closely with an experienced People team, you'll play a key role in ensuring payroll processes run smoothly and employees receive timely assistance.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Acting as the primary contact for phone and email enquiries through the Branch Helpdesk
* Responding to routine tier one payroll and HR queries within scope, escalating more complex matters when required
* Processing straightforward payroll transactions, variations, and updates in Aurion
* Completing non-complex payroll calculations, including leave balances, parental leave, and termination payments
* Monitoring and managing Helpdesk tickets in line with service standards
* Supporting the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures
* Assisting with staff training on payroll processes such as timesheets, leave applications, and system use
* Contributing to a collaborative, service-focused team environment
This APS4 role can be based in Canberra, with other locations in Australia considered.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you'll bring a strong customer service mindset and a genuine interest in payroll and people services, along with:
* Australian citizen
* At least 6 months' experience in Human Resources, payroll, or a generalist role
* Confidence handling frontline enquiries and explaining processes in plain language
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to process payroll information accurately
* Experience with an APS or similar environment
* Exposure to Aurion payroll systems
* The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team
