General Manager
to lead the organisation into its next era of growth and excellence.
The GM oversees all aspects of the organisation's operations and business functions - including competition management, talent development, stakeholder engagement, and financial performance - while ensuring the delivery of high-quality basketball experiences for members, affiliate clubs, and the broader community.
This is a pivotal leadership role with responsibility for shaping the future of basketball in the region, building strong partnerships, and promoting a culture of integrity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership and Governance
Provide strategic leadership and direction across all departments in conjunction with Toowoomba Basketball Associations multi-year strategic plan.
Drive the creation and execution of
annual business plans
, performance indicators, and organisational reporting structures.
Ensure robust
risk management
, policy development, and compliance with Basketball Queensland, Basketball Australia, and local government regulations.
2. Basketball Program & Competition Oversight
Lead the planning, administration, and delivery of all Toowoomba Basketball Association basketball operations including:
Oversee Domestic Competitions
(Juniors, Seniors and Social Leagues)
Oversee Development Programs
– Mini Neers, Neers Academy, Sporting Schools, Coach Education, Clinics
Oversee Representative Pathways
– Junior and Senior Mountaineers, QSL.
Collaborate with technical directors, competition managers, and affiliate clubs to align competitions and development frameworks.
Oversee scheduling, venue bookings, referee management, and game day logistics across all venues and affiliated branch programs.
3. Commercial Partnerships, Sponsorship & Marketing
Design and lead a
comprehensive commercial strategy
to diversify revenue through sponsorship, grant funding, and fundraising initiatives.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with sponsors, funding bodies, and commercial partners, ensuring clear value delivery and retention.
Oversee all branding, communications, media, merchandise, and digital engagement, ensuring consistent representation of the Toowoomba Basketball Association identity.
Lead community engagement initiatives that grow brand awareness, community reach, and participation.
4. Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare and manage the annual budget, financial forecasts, and funding strategies in collaboration with the Treasurer and Finance Manager
Lead financial operations including P&L management, financial reporting, invoicing, and grant acquittals.
Ensure compliance with auditing, financial reporting obligations, and NFP best practices.
Provide the Treasurer and Extended Board with timely and transparent financial and operational updates.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Serve as the lead representative and liaison with all internal and external stakeholders including:
Affiliated branch clubs
and domestic competition representatives
Players, families, volunteers, and life members
Local government bodies
Basketball Queensland
and
Basketball Australia
Local schools, sponsors, community partners, and media outlets
Implement communication strategies to ensure members are informed, consulted, and engaged across the year.
6. People Leadership and Culture
Oversee recruitment, development, and performance of all staff including operations staff, development officers, referees, coaches, and volunteers.
Establish clear structures for staff roles, performance reviews, onboarding, and ongoing professional development.

Key Selection Criteria
Essential
Proven experience in sports administration or operational management role
Strong knowledge of business operations
Exceptional communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
Proven track record in
financial management
, including budgeting, reporting, and revenue generation.
Experience working with
government agencies, funding bodies, and affiliated clubs or associations
.
Ability to lead in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
Technologically capable, with experience in platforms such as Basketball Connect, Xero, Canva, and Microsoft 365.
Have or willing to obtain a Working with Children card (Blue Card)
Desirable
At least five years' experience in a similar role.
A degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or related field.
Knowledge of the Basketball Queensland or Basketball Australia structure and programs.
